On 27 November we were told the AFL 'might soften the ban' on the Swans engaging in the trade period (for next year as we've already missed out this year) while still retaining COLA in line with its contractual commitments. We've heard nothing since. As the Swans had already been granted the opportunity to present their case for the abolition of the ban to the full AFL Commission on 15 December, that is next Monday, it seems to me that tomorrow is the last day to announce the possible 'softening'.

As McLachlan said on 27 November that representatives of the AFL and the Swans were meeting at the time to discuss a possible 'softening', the lack of any further communication suggests to me that no resolution was found. So Monday could be a very interesting day!

I want the academies and cola. Both are totally independent of each other and required in non-afl areas.

Anyone who doesnt think we need cola should take a look at the lions post cola.

Perhaps the retreat back to the scg is related. Swans can no longer afford expansion and so are consolidating.

This may be a generalize statement but I think the more local born players we can get and develop the less important COLA becomes so the academy is very important in that regard. Sydney is still 15% more expensive than Melbourne but we have other advantages.

The Lions never had a COLA - a "cost of living allowance". They had a retention allowance, to allow for the fact that so many of their players were from interstate and hence it was harder to retain them, particularly being on a football frontier.

We had one of those too, though it was slightly higher than the Lions' allowance to also compensate for the higher cost of living. When the Lions' retention allowance was abolished because Eddie threw one of his tantrums, the Swans' allowance was reduced and rebadged as a COLA.

Amazing how Eddie and his puppet Newbold from Hawks and Gordon from Bulldogs were the main driving forces for equalisation and now Newbold wants his coach's salary out side the football spending cap because he has been there ten years and Gordon recruits a 2nd year player for a huge amount of money after being one of those to be vocal about the Buddy deal. These muppets need to be brought down a peg. Still cant get over the fact the swans were not allowed to trade. If there is any justice then Hawks will be crap next year (I can live in hope).

There's a new narrative in regards to this trade ban, that we were being sneaky about the announcement from the AFL and it was us trying to paint the AFL as the bad men and that we knew all along, even whe we signed buddy. Ironically the two sets of supporters who actually WANT to believe this bull@@@@ are hawks and adelaide fans. We can give the hawk fans back to back and a flogging in the grand final BUT they won't ever forget the 2012 GF. We stole it to the point where a few of their brain dead fans actually want the 2012 flag back. A few weeks ago at a friends place a hawk fan started again on that 2012 GF and i just had to lay it down for him.

The born to rule mentality from bogan hawk fans annoys me a lot. Spiteful, mean and childish is what i consider most of their fanbase.

The problem is that so much of the Wees and Poos fan base grew up during the 80s and hence have a great 'entitlement' provision within their dna. They won't ever get over 2012, and I just hope we can find a way to give them something else to whinge about in 2015. As long as someone stops them winning the flag, I'll be happy - even if it isn't us.

If any hawks fan mentions the 2012 GF , I respond that their logic means they should give back the 2008 GF to Geelong.

It sucks living in Melbourne and hearing the press the hawks are getting now that they are back training. Today on SEN they were going to replay the end of the GF. The radio was switched off very quickly!!

Anyway it will be interesting what happens tomorrow at the hearing. Although I'm sure all the coverage will be about Essendon yet again.

Sounds deluded. Gillon said that the Swans had asked the trade ban to not be announced until they were ready, as they had been informed the week of the Grand Final. Any earlier and it's just hogwash.

Although I can't see any mention of it in any of the sports media. Plenty about the Essendon/ASADA case starting today though.
