Re Rose, you don't necessarily need to be tall to be a good making forward. Take Jamie Elliot from Collingwood for example. If you've got a good leap you can overcome your lack of height.

the only surprise for me was that we didnt look seriously reece mckenzie at 196cm and 2.87 seconds on the 20m sprint and he went in the pick 70s...........Draft prospect: Reece McKenzie - AFL.com.au
i certainly thought with that speed build he could have been a KP defensive project

from memory his father Warren McKenzie played a couple seasons for us also???"be tough, only when it gets tough"

In this draft we saw the Academy yielding 4 selections (in bold) - while Heeney was always going to be a high pick and perform accordingly, none of the others set the world on fire. But perhaps their selection raised encouraged other academy kid to strive harder. We took
#18 Isaac Heeney
#37 James Rose
#38 Jack Hiscox
#70 Abaina Davis
Then
#17 Sean McLaren
#35 Nic Newman
#52 Lewis Melican
#76 Jordan Foote
There were a moderate number of alternatives available, rather than Rose and/or Hiscox we could have taken Bailey Dale, Caleb Daniel, Mitch McGovern or Ed Langdon who all went after than in the main draft. Or we could have taken Kane Lambert, Jason Castagna, Jayden Short, Adam Saad or Reilly O'Brien, who all had to wait for the Rookie draft.
Saad was probably the player we could most have used, as he provides tremendous run out of defence, but subsequent history suggests he may have been a serious flight risk.
Reilly O’Brien could have been useful but at the time we two promising young rucks in Nankervis and Naismith.
Caleb Daniel’s wonderfully accurate disposal would have fitted in too, but perhaps we might have been concerned at his lack of height.
And Ed Langdon would have provided some of the run we are still trying to stockpile.
So yes, there were other picks we could have taken, but did we leave anyone truly transformative on the table? I don’t think so, so maybe a B (or C if you’re marking hard)Comment

Yes, hardly a stellar draft for us saved by picking up Heeney for just number 18. With the rules in place now, he would most likely gone top 10 with us needing to match a bid from elsewhere. The rules were changed after this because the other clubs argued that we got him too cheap.Comment

Man, Richmond totally nailed that rookie draft. As good as it gets.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Numerically this draft has so far yeilded 233 games, or 29 games per selection. One of the poorer ROI thus, but it may continue to improve a bit with Heeney and the Pelican still on the list.Last edited by Ruck'n'Roll; 16 December 2021, 04:19 PM.Comment

I would give us a C for the ND and a B+ for the rookie draft (although that could improve if Melican ever really gets his act together). All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment
