2015 academy discussion thread (with some FS thrown in for good measure)

We are very critical of Eddie on Red and White, but our views are in the minority and on the fringe. The majority of the AFL community see Eddie as an ornament of the game. He has the unique ability to have the common AFL supporter believing his views through his media appearances then the big end of the AFL town love him for the opportunity he can bring. He has the best referdex in Victoria.

Why are we continuing to fight this guy? We have to accept that he is the most powerful and influential person in the AFL. If you can get him onside then you can win the big issues.

Why are we not inviting Eddie up to Sydney and showing him around our Academy? Why are we not getting Eddie to talk to Academy kids who will tell him how the Academy has converted he and his family to the AFL game? Why are we not trying to convince Eddie that the Northern Academy's are essential to the games development? With Rugby Union stuffed and Rugby League high, this is the opportunity for a great AFL northern push. Why are Longmire, Harley and Ireland not lunching with Eddie and funding some common ground?

Forget about talking to the AFL executive or commission. You will win the war if you can successfully lobby Eddie.

I think you need to inform Eddie that the only way for the AFL to become like the NFL is to win every state in Australia. At the moment the AFL is not winning NSW, ACT or Queensland. The Academy's are the key to growing the game.

Eddie would love a game that could pay Bucks 4 million a year and Scott Pendulbury 2.5 million a year.

The only way to make the above scenario happen is to grow crowd numbers and viewership in the growth markets of NSW, ACT and Queensland.

The Northern Academy's will play a vital long term role in this vision and should not be tampered with. In short Eddie, the Academy's win, you win, the industry wins.

Whatever we say about Eddie, he isnt stupid. He would already know all of these things, however his number one priority is Collingwood, not the AFL. I am certain that if he ever had Gillan's job his story would be completely different because he would be responsible for the whole pie (see what I did there?). And who says we have never invited the other presidents to look at our academy? Do we know that they have never visited? Would they consider sending Hans Blix into the academy to search for the number 1 draft picks that we are hiding and settle the issue once and for all?

If so many people thought he was a moron, why does his media commitments still rate well. The media companies owe him nothing. They would cancel his media appearances if too few people watched or listened to him.

The AFL know about his influence and get him onside before anything is done.

The AFL must fear Eddie as they keep giving him a huge audience.

Eddie is also considered a great guy by the AFL brass who all want to be his mate.
