When Leigh Matthews and David King use the term then I think you can stop criticizing us mortals for doing it. Every team has one - Luke Hodge anybody? It is a legitimate (and accurate) term to use to describe a player who plays that role.

If we are going down that track then why not just call them the flyhalf?

The club needs to back Tom Mitchell and I think having Mitchell, Parker and Kennedy in the team is enough slower inside midfielders for one game. Bird will come in for one of these guys if they get injured or need a rest.

I would also like to get Heeney in the team and on subs vest early in the year.

          My back 7 is:

          B Reid Richards Smith
          HB Rohan Grundy Rampe

          Loose Man

Jetta - Providing the drive and delivery.

Reid - Pending match ups but did some excellent work in filling holes in 2014.

Shaw will come in when there is an injury to one of the medium / small defenders. Jones would also be in the mix to fill in a small / defensive role and can also play as a hard tag defensive player in the midfield

If Richards or Grundy are injured, then Reid would move to a key back position. If another key back goes down then I would bring in Aliir. I would be intrigued to see how Aliir, Reid and Melican play as the three tall defensive backs.
I think Aliir is not far away. He is a mover and pretty good in the contest. He has wonderful reach and a huge leap. He played really well.

it will be interesting to watch his evolvement in the forwards though

AG, Horse told Benny at the end of 2013 he would have to beef up his tank as he had no role for him in the forward line except as a resting mid. Either he became a full time mid or? The answer was easy for Benny. Become a mid. He isn't seen as a small forward for some reason. Horse seems to hate full time small forwards, that was Roos love not his. But he's developed three of them but they can all play mids I must admit. Very confusing. Lamb was also in the same boat, good on the HF but made into a mix & match player. I am not sure if I like all this flexibility. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and have a specialist small forward. Look at Luke Bruest, Nick Davis, Stevie J, LaCras, Elliot etc. I think we would do well to have a specialist forward who can crumbbecause that is actually one of our weaknesses. As much as the media keep talking about the crumbing goals, they are mainly from the ruck or Goodes, Benny or Joey. they don't talk about the other 75% of the time when the ball comes in to our talls only to be cleared because there is nobody crumbing.

In relation to the website. The Swans Reserves receives by far the highest traffic. This should be proof to the guys in Swans Media that the supporters want to find out more about our youth.

Do you know that some of the profile stats haven't been changed since players came to the club. Need to keep abreast of how the players are developing profile stats wise. I thought the review of matches got better for the reserves last year. But I still think there was not enough content in that section. these players are the future of the club and the fans are interested in their development. I would also like to see footage of not just the NEAFL replays/streams but also matches the NEAFL did't cover.

I personally think we should avoid using terms from other games when describing position. In fact the Quarterback is not a back at all. His is an offensive role and he takes the ball from the kick off or restart of play and develops the play. He plays everywhere from the back to the forward. What is being described is a loose man in defence. Loose man does it for me. There are two roles here too if you include Hodge, loose man and spoiler. Mal was both at times until he started getting tagged. Spoiler or foil were the old names for these players in the VFL/SANFL/ WAFL/TFL days.

I think you'll find that all those players you named spend plenty of time in the midfield. Even Nick Davis did when he wasn't dogging it, and was pretty good at it too.

The reason for the flexibility push is to keep up with Hawthorn. You never know where their players will pop up. That's why they're so good. It's very difficult to target one of their players, although some have tried tagging Sam Mitchell (a good idea IMO). I found that when other sides targeted Malceski last year, it was a successful ploy and slowed our movement out of the back half.

I expect to see more positional rotations in our game plan this year. We saw a bit of it toward the end of last season with Jetta slipping deeper back as the season progressed, and Rohan starting up forward at the start of quarters and then dropping back into defence. It's one of the thing I'll be looking for in the NAB games.

PS: I love the enthusiasm of your posts. It really gets me pumped for the season. If you're right on your player assessments, we're a lock on the next 10 premierships.

The irony is that the original offender, Matt80, also used the term "loose man" in another post. So he can do it properly when he tries.

Do you think Aliir will get called up if there is an injury to Grundy or Ted Richards, or will they move Sam Reid to a key back position?

Maybe Reid week 1 and then lets see

Aliir is seriously looking great for Snrs though.............in what capacity of match ups is the question in 2015

2016 i reckon he is 100% ready for a KPP

I think Reid is a chance to play at CHB regardless of whether or not Grundy or Richards are injured...there's merit in playing 3 talls (keeping in mind Sam and Ted can provide half-decent rebound as well) and freeing up the likes of Rampe or Rohan. I don't think anyone will argue with me when I say Gaz and Dane both play better as small defenders as opposed to the third tall anyway.
