If Mitchell's not good enough to make this side I have trouble seeing that he will be in the starting 22 within the foreseeable future.
It seems that he is competing mainly against Bird. Bird is still young and likely has 4-6 years left in him. Same goes for Kennedy and Hannas. I can only assume that the coaches have faith in him otherwise they would have traded him last year. But Mitchell won't be happy playing in the NEAFL waiting for one of the above to retire or be traded. I can't work this out.Comment

Yes, Matt, it would make sense for one of the larger bodies to make way for Mitchell if the conditions are as abysmal as the forecast.
And speaking of the conditions, I don't know why people are starting to fret about the probably gloomy weather, when the game is to be umpired by 'the little Ray of sunshine', who is bound to light up our lives.Comment

I think we have gone as tall as we can in the back six due to Essendon picking so many talls in their forwardline. Myers, Ambrose, Hurley & Daniher. Fast on the flanks in Merritt & Zaharakis. Maybe Colyer will also be sent forward to try to stretch Rhyce and nullify him. Smithy will get one Rhyce the other small forward if they play this way. But the talls are going to have to be shared out between Teddy, Laids, Reg, & Rohan & Ramps I'd prefer to see Rohan,Ramps & jetts in running roles off the HB or in Jetts case wing or HB.

The Swans would have had to have been very keen on someone coming up in the draft last year to trade off Tom Mitchell for picks. Whereas it might have been a possibility if they had a particular proven player in mind who was known to be looking for a move. (For example one now at GWS).Comment

I feel that if Bird and Mitchell don't both have strong seasons, the club will be looking at trading them to raise points for the Mills and Dunkley transactions.Comment
