By the way I thought Lloydy kick started the fight back. Lloydy has must say to himself a million times a day 'Get ball, look for options, use ball well.' He certainly knows how to get ball and use it well and he proved it could be done to the other lads. He also protects the player with the ball by shepherding which was lacking yesterday until he came on. Roos never believed shepherding was a great skill and reckoned if you were shepherding you weren't there to provide an option. I think his thinking in today's game especially is flawed. I wonder if he has changed his mind. Anyway that is why most of our older players either don't or rarely shepherd. Players like Smithy and Birdy do. But not yesterday for the most part.

I was very impressed with Lloyd - really did well when he came on. He did alright when he came on in the GF as well - I hope he is in the starting 21 soon, as he is too classy to be in the subs vest I think.

They tried what Hawks were doing for the past years with a great success. I still remember how everybody was complaining about the bombing in the forward line where our forwards were so successfully manned by multiple defenders. Pinpoint is a go, but you need skill for that. And, that my friend, is the core of our problem.

Plus the right conditions. You can't play pinpoint football when its wet and greasy like yesterday, it just doesn't work.

I was a bit concerned about the vitriol directed at Ray Chamberlin. I was guilty as well as I yelled out "Ray"!!!! at the top of my voice.

In a week where NRL fans are being slammed for assaulting a referee, we should be treating the umpires with more respect.

AFL fans should be thought of differently to the barbarian NRL fans. We should be offering a 100% polite, family friendly environment so we can attract the polite good family followers of the NRL, who are disgusted by the barbarian crowds antics.

IMHO, Chamberlain gets all he deserves for continually being a 'look at me' showpony of an umpire. He has shown, over a dozen years or so, that he thinks the game is 'all about me', instead of just officiating the game and trying not to be noticed, like the best umpires going around do. That's without considering the number of hatchet jobs he has attempted on the Swans over the year (Im sure every club has the same stories!), including the successful one against Freo at the SCG a few years ago.

I have no issues with booing - but there is clearly no place for assaulting referees like what was seen on Friday at the League game at ANZ.

* Reid and Jetta are going to be absolute trade bait if they don't smarten up their acts
* From one match, and I know this is harsh, it looks like Goodes has made the wrong decision to retire, then again looking at Membrey's efforts today we didn't lose much there

We always play bad in the wet so I think we'll get a better idea after next week against the Port Adelaide Kochs

It's one thing to not be a hard nut. But to actually shy away from impact (as Jetta sometimes does) or to not chase hard at AFL is inexcusable. Every player in the AFL should be prepared to take and give the knocks and bumps when needed. Players like Parker and Buddy are on another level again.

He is also quick with silky skills and at times a potential match-winner. He had a breakout season in 2014 but my money is on him leaving at the end of this year and if we can get decent trade currency then that may not be a bad thing

A few have been hard on Goodesy. It was a wet game and didn't really suit his style. I don't know that he has ever been good in the wet. I wouldn't be jumping off him yet. Jetta also; he wasn't recruited as a hard nut and never will be. He is an outside runner and he certainly wasn't our worst player.

I'll make a call I think we all know in our hearts - We cannot win a flag this year with Adam Goodes in our 22 this year. He has sadly become our weakest link, a classic case of a player going on a season too far

3 hours of boredom for 10 minutes excitement. Congrats to the 20,000 members who boycotted the game and showed the afl we wont tollerate drugs in sport. Disappointed 23,000 turned up. 23k too many but at least they booed hird.

Yes Barry's post was dumb, although I disregarded it as trolling. The 20,000 crowd certainly had nothing to do with a boycott, as that would have hurt us and not them, but there were plenty of reasons other than the venue. The weather was dire and if it wasn't for the Swans Members' Bar I wouldn't have gone either. It is also Easter, and many people are away or have other commitments. I know there are some people who won't go to that venue, which I find poor to be honest especially for Round 1, but there were many other factors at play. If you really think we'd have drawn 35,000 to the SCG in that weather you are absolutely kidding yourself.

What I liked about Heeney was that on several important occasions he was very clean below his knees - for me that was one of the pleasing things of the evening and a glimpse of how good this kid can be. He's a hard nut too....

I did faint at the MCG in 2012 when Malceski kicked a goal with 35 seconds to go in the GF. I jumped up, my head and legs lost strength, causing me to fall back into my chair as all the people around me continued to jump around. The blood drained from my head as the ball wobbled over the goal umpires head. It must have released all the tension and shut the body down. The calmness over me after that moment I wish I could bottle and bring out every day.

The amazing thing is that I did not faint when saying my vows or watching my son being born.

If my son ever kicks a winning goal, takes a hat trick or hits a 100 then I may faint again.

Unless you suffered from postural hypotension, a low haemoglobin level, massive spontaneous internal haemorrhaging ... or at a stretch narcolepsy, why would you expect faint reciting wedding vows? ????

"24 hour bug" likely relates to the postural hypotension situation because of low fluid intake (we often become a little dehydrated with sickness as we don't feel like drinking), & standing still at the alter ... you should always wriggle your toes or tap your feet in such a situation ("bug" or not) to stimulate venous return.

Ah yes, sorry, back on topic!
Watched it in a pub in Adelaide with no sound I was the only one watching the footy screen - everyone else was watching (& yelling at) the horse racing. Loved it!
Was going to watch it with an Essendon supporting friend but he ended up going away for Easter ... & for the first 3 quarters I was glad he did. For the last quarter I was also glad he wasn't there as it would have broken his heart to see that happen. I don't think I ever lose faith that we're a chance until it gets to the impossible & with 15 minutes to go I thought we were a possibility ... but I was still astounded by the win. To me, it shows character. You wouldn't want to rely on it every week, but our best is very good & a quarter like that can give a playing group (& supporters) belief. Imagine the atmosphere at the SCG with that kind of finish!!

I had to laugh at Nathan Brown on the channel 9 Sunday footy show. He was trying to prove his point that Essendon wouldn't have lost the game if it was played in 3 weeks time because they would have match fitness. Fair point, except the footage he showed was of mistakes made by Cooney and Goddard, who had no excuses because they were able to play in the NAB games. And then he showed footage of Buddy saying he had fresh legs...but he only played 2 quarters of one game and 5 minutes of another!

Off topic, I am going to the hawks v cats game today and I heard they are unveiling the premiership flag today ????. I hope they do it before I get there!
