Good to see the groundswell of "enough" from most of the footy community ... but a few observations ... most of the booing is stupid "bandwagon" stuff by ignorant people who ought to have a sense of how ugly it is ... the number of real "racists" among them is miniscule and the discussion should not be shaped by that word ... a proportion of those booing would claim Goodsey has over stepped the mark on occasions in relation to (1) trying to milk free kicks and questionable actions against other players & (2) some would say that some of his heart felt Aboriginal history comments could have been a little more balanced ... and he could choose better role models on interpreting history than John Pilger ... neither of these justify the booing but they are not the same thing as racism. I hope we see this issue die so that Adam can end his career on the high note it should.

Agree with most of this but I don't think Goodes needs to balance his comments. The 'history' that kids/people get taught is predominantly comprised of PROPAGANDA and FAIRY TALES, and if you question it you are targeted. For instance, WWII propaganda is laughable but everyone is brainwashed to believe this 'good guy/bad guy' dichotomy. It's called nationlism and its the easiest way to manipulate the masses. History is written by the 'winner'. These days we have centralised blanket media who simply need to engage in repetition.

But anyway, this is relevant because if anyone bothers to actually check what they did to Aboriginals, especially in Tasmania, then no one would be questioning Goodes' choice of words. An astute observer would take note of who exactly did these things, and what those same groups are doing today. They were just warming up. But it was beyond shocking. Nothing Goodes could say would be hardcore enough to capture this sort of history.

No one learns this stuff in school. School is mostly propaganda, indoctrination, teaching kids to take offense to everything, and to believe in self-defeating philosophies, including the idea that two conflicting ideas can both be true. 2 + 2 = 5. New speak. Etc etc.

My two cents. Goodsie certainly gets conversations started everywhere like little spot fires, doesn't he.

Bottom line is the Swans desperately need Goodes the footballer on the field right now.

            Jenny here from the Club.

Just a quick note to say if you do plan on handing anything out (and KTigers - wow, what a generous offer!), make sure you get in touch with Teo Gutierrez in our match day team on (02) 9339 9123 as soon as you can. We need to get approval for all handouts and activities out the front of the SCG, so best to check with him first so it can all go ahead as you plan!

It's shaping up to be a great day on Saturday, and the outpouring of support for Adam has been incredible. If you're yet to get a ticket, I'd recommend getting in quickly. We expect to only have sight-restricted seats available by Saturday.

            All the best,

            Jenny
Sorry to go off topic but I wish to stand by Goodesy for as many games as possible for the rest of the year.

Hi Jenny. It's great that you monitor and post here.

My daughter and I are seriously thinking about coming to Sydney for this game to stand by Goodes. We are Vic Gold members which allows us to access three Sydney games. Do we just rock up, scan our members' badges and enter the GA area and be seated the best we can find? Or will we have to book?

Same question for the Collingwood game in two weeks?

            Thanks.

Fair comment Bloodthirsty ... perhaps nuanced would have been a better word than balanced ... perhaps a touch more recognition of the significant goodwill and taxpayers dollars that have been poured into efforts that have been made in the last 50 years to address real issues ... which inevitably ... for a whole range of reasons ... have been unable to bridge the gap for many ... and money never will.

I can't imagine how Goodesy is feeling, how people can be so dismissive of how he feels about this, it's a disgrace. One thing this situation does do is highlight the extent of the problem we have, and I think somewhere down the line, Goodes will be acknowledged and celebrated for bringing it about.
I made the same mistake last night before going to bed. Disillusioned. Didn't get to sleep for at least an hour. Normally takes about 5 minutes or less. It does have an effect for sure.......

Thanks Neilfws. What an insightful article by Stan Grant. So many of us have no idea - so unaware. It must be doubly painful to not only grow up belonging to a marginalised minority group but a marginalised minority group in your own country.

I can see how it is difficult for Aboriginal people to stand up and stand out, as Stan has done in his article, for there are not too many who hold influential media positions or who have the wider-world perspective he is able to bring. Many of the Aboriginal leaders are leaders within their communities and limit themselves to issues within those communities. And there is the conditioning to be compliant rather than assertive if they want to get by! Adam is certainly finding that out!

Who would have thought that an Aboriginal person being assertive about his aboriginality on a public stage could bring to the fore so much ugliness, vindictiveness and hate. From the likes of Dermie and Sam Newman all the way down to the mother of the 13 year-old school girl comes the demand - apologise Adam Goodes - we don't like your actions, in fact we don't like anything about you, your just being on the football field is now an offence to some of us. It is so mind-boggling.

I can understand why Adam might be considering pulling the pin. To run out on the field again particularly for away games after the kind of booing he received last Sunday would be so daunting. However I hope the Swans might be galvanised to pull out the pin and win the next six games, get into the finals, grand final, and win. Yay, miracles do happen!!

All the best to those organising 'the show of support for Goodesy' activities. Wish I was closer to play a part!

Adam has been an exemplary person in every respect. The comments made by the likes of Brereton and many other football commentators throughout this episode have been so unfair to him because they continually brought up things suggestive of Adam bringing this upon himself, and it was his own behavior to blame for the booing. They provided cover for those that wanted a reason to boo. I knew without a doubt from the very start that it was racist. Nothing will happen to those who fueled the fire of racism, but who knows what will become of Adam.

Hi all, I've been in discussion with Tigers and Margo and we need some help on Saturday.

There will be 1000 T-shirts with 37 on them front and back on Saturday. Thanks so much KTigers!

I'll take a couple of hundred to the Member recognition event - is anyone else going to that who can help me hand them out?

Can some others come along to the SCG early to help hand out T-shirts? I guess we mainly want to give it to people who sit near the front and will be prominently seen. (The banner team can't wear them instead of their standard jackets.) Driver Ave closes at 2pm so we'll drop them before then and stay there with them. BTW the Swans have asked that we make sure we take the empty boxes away when we are finished.

If you can help, thank you very much. If you can express your interest on this thread we'll follow up with you - I find my PM mailbox fills quickly (or used to).

This is our chance to back up our words with actions, thanks to one of us. Let's make it as effective as possible.
