The worry for me is Reid and Rohan. They were part of my Super Six that we recruited within a year or two who seemed to have what it takes to carry our team into the future!! One of them, AJ, alas is out of action indefinitely, and Reid and Rohan up to this point have been dogged by injury. We have only had glimpses of what they are capable of. Hopefully they can both recover well and become key players in our team - even this season. Fully fit and firing they would make a difference. Tom Mitchell has shown that it is possible!

I think we have a gun 22 and probably the best in the league but I'm very concerned about 2 things this year- Our depth, but this has been discussed to depth, with only 3-4 injuries we're dipping into players who've barely played a game
- Our speed, with the loss of Jetta, permanent injury and form fluctuation of both Rohan and McGlynn and even the loss of the ol' hands of Goodes and Shaw we look alot slower on paper and mightn't be able to match a few teams

Several players out of round one against a in form Collingwood is a worry. No reid, Rohan or McVeigh. Not much depth at the moment which is a concern. Last Year Tom Harley said that Lewis Melican is definitely up to AFL standard, but have not seen him this year. Is he injured?Comment

Swingman Dawson ?
So the kid as we have seen has an enormous kick !!!
more kick then Pharlap
more kick then Kingston Town
ok
ok
enough.............but i would like his nickname to become "Kick Dawson" or just "Kick" !! lol
So is he the next Malceski style player that floats thru the HB line in attack and pushes loose onto the wings ?
Is he the swingman that leads up in our forward line then has to go back and defend ?
We don't even know if he has the tank to play Snrs week in week out ?
but he can kick !!!
boy can he kick !!

We have almost no depth to cover injuries and severely lack leg speed and skills, as shown by a 3/4 strength GWS last week!Comment

After listening to a recent Stewart Dew interview on First Bounce I am going to have to resign myself to Tippet being in the ruck and pinch hitting up forward rather than the other way round. Dew's reasons were that KT liked the freedom of moving around the ground and getting involved, and that he evidently has kicked more goals when being on the ball than when stationary up forward.
One has to accept too that the game has changed, as others have said, the days of the dominant big forward are just about over. Trying to pinpoint the likes of a leading Bazza or Mickey O on the chest is just not possible when the forward line is either crowded with about 30 players or opposition players only or KT and 5 opposition players! Sigh!Comment

We'll run the two close to 50:50. They're both genuine ruck-forwards and we could be pretty lucky with that. Tipp in particular kicked 2 goals a game last year while racking up major ruck time and stats. He's a unique threat in that regard and I think Sinclair could compliment him really well.Comment

I also noted in the twitter comments that Rohan has been slated for halfback, something I have been promoting for a while, based on the assumption that Towers becomes a regular forward. We could have 3 halfbacks in Rohan, Laidler and Rampe who are capable of handling all but the monster forwards. So we could theoretically go with just one KPD in a bind. Given the success of the Eagles small backline last year, it looks more likely that only 2 of Reg, Ted and Talia will play in the same side, especially if Rohan is fit and in form. There was also a compliment for Towers in the comments, so I expect the forward role is his to lose this year.Comment

round1
?? assumed out - Macca, Rohan, mcglynn, Reid, Richards
Heeney, Tipppo, pappley?
Towers, Bud, Cunningham
Parker
Kennedy
Hannes
Sinclair
Lloyd
K.Jack
Rampe, Reg, Mills
Laids, Talia, Smith
bench:
hewett
Mitchell
Dawson or Newman ? i would go with Dawson as we not have Reid and secondly K.Jack
Jones - injured?
So has pappley done enough to beat Brandon Jack ?
If so will Newman or Dawson be picked ahead of Brandon Jack ?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Yep that is basically the team I would go with. I would choose Newman over Dawson simply to get some Neafl time into Dawson. But having said that I would choose papley over b jack as Brandon has been clearly sub standard
I think jones will be fineComment

Here's what I've got for Round 1.
Injured - unavailable
McVeigh
Rohan
Johnson - gone for 2016, maybe for good
Injured 50/50
Richards - Should play
Reid - Probably play
McGlynn - Probably miss
Certainties
Hannebery
Heeney
Mitchell
Tippett
Laidler
Kennedy
K Jack
Sinclair
Towers
Franklin
Rampe
Parker
Grundy
Smith
Lloyd
Fringe/New Faces
Mills - Will play
Cunningham - very likely
Talia - very likely
Jones - very likely
Hewitt - Good chance
Papley - Good chance
Newman - maybe
Rose - outside chance
B Jack - outside chance
Robinson - probably not
Nankervis - probably not
Hiscox - doubt it
X Richards - doubt it
Not in the mix right now
Dawson - Not yet, but looks good
Leonardis - Not yet
Davis - What's his story?
Naismith - still injured/recovering?
Aliir - Shows some signs, but doesn't seem to be in the mix yet
Melican - What's happening with him?
O'Riordan
Marsh
Derickx
Foote
Murray
Galloway
So I've got 15 certainties. Three 50/50 injured - I think Richards will play, McGlynn probably not, and Reid should unless the club are hiding something.
That leaves 5 spots for the fringe/youngsters. Mills is a certainty, so 4 spots to share between Cunningham, Talia, Jones, Hewitt, Papley, Rose, Newman, B. Jack, Robinson, Nankervis, and I'll throw McGlynn into this group as well.
Cunningham, Talia and Jones are all likely, so one of Hewitt or Papley may miss out. Hewitt is ahead of Papley at this stage, but Papley does fill a hole as a small forward. An interesting decision. Maybe both of them get in and someone else is squeezed out. If so who? Perhaps McGlynn gets the nod and they both miss out? I'd have Hewitt in myself. I'd like to see Papley in as well, but just can't see who he displaces.Comment
