How much would the Roosters next door have knocked off our crowd? Fair overlap in the two supporter bases.

Wonder what the W/L record vs Collingwood is at the two venues since 2000?

But comparing SCG crowds, its 5000 less than last year.
It's also a round 1 game, which has historically meant a lower attendance - prime example being 23k at ANZ last year. 34k for round 1 at the SCG is a huge effort!

That was a GWS home game and their first ever game in the AFL so there were more neutrals than usual. It also wasn't a long weekend. Whenever we've played at home over the Easter long weekend, crowds have always been down.

Oh well, at least they're probably happier than the ones that saw the game.

barry isn't one to let the facts get in the way of his dislike of the SCG, it's too old for starters.....

Watching the game it looked like their weren't as many Collingwood supporters as there normally are at ANZ. So that would have affected the numbers.

There is no way we would have won by 80 points if it was at ANZ!

The animal enclosure next to the Bradman Stand did seem rather small compared to previous years

I can't beleive the excuses for the poor crowd. 30,000 should be the minimum we get for a suns game.

We'd get that at anz with most of RWO boycotting the venue.????

Jeez Barry let it go your Stadium Australia / ANZ Stadium / Telstra Stadium membership is no longer valid for watching the Swans. I understand your frustration however your repetitive relentless sniping at the Sydney Cricket Ground as our teams home venue will do nothing to change that .

They served proper beer on Sat night too - it was only Carlton but better than that mid strength stuff they used to force on us. That was a nice change......

Nearly every interview with Swans players after the game included a line about how great it was to be back at the SCG, great stuff!

Must be time for the first fact-check with charts of 2016

Let's start with crowds versus Collingwood since 2006:

                              swansPies.png

So yes: second-lowest crowd vs Pies of past 10 years and down on the SCG last year. But as noted elsewhere, Easter - more on that in a moment. There's also been a general decline in ANZ crowds since 2008. Both teams were considered "powerhouse" sides in the mid-2000s and consequently pulled larger crowds.

Someone asked about the win/loss record at home venues since 2000:

                              swansPiesResult.png

2W/1L at SCG, 3W/10L at ANZ. That 2012 final win was sweet.

                              Finally, the "Easter effect":

                              swansR1.png

There have only been 4 home games on the Easter weekend since 2000, but this years crowd was the largest of those. It was also the second largest round 1 home crowd since 2000; 2007 versus the Eagles being an outlier due to the profile of both teams at that time.

I'd suggest that this years crowd be considered "good" in the context of round 1, Easter, the declining profile of the opposition and perhaps losing a few to the game next door.
