very pleasing hunt for the ball

we wanted it more then WC and we deserved the 40pt win

only 21 players most of the game is a fantastic effort

      players of note:

HEWITT - such a great decision maker and is a must for the SCG field with more contested footy

      PAPLEY - AN ABSOLUTE GOER

RICHARDS and GRUNDY - VINTAGE and seriously that is two very dominant forwards in the competition that between them and DANE they adapted to without Laids and did brilliantly

MCGLYNN - never back against a fighter...........he has scrapped and fought tooth and nail and brings an energy that is infectious

      HANNES - champion

SMITHY - the human spider WEB

that will do cause i could mention so many more

I haven't read the whole thread but I just gotta say that Rampe, Reg and Ted were just about our best.
Rampe was all over Darling. I don't remember Darling doing a thing.
Reg was super strong against the other Josh Kennedy. Again he proved he is one of the game premier defenders.
And Teddy, well he had a day out. Playing that intercept role is what he does best and can be of of the best in the league at it.
When Laids went off I thought we were going to be in a lot of trouble down back, but our boys stepped up.

          ok last one CALLUM MILLS

          7 tackles
          stacks of spoils
great opposition to test his decision making and i thought he level jumped from weeks prior

I think Callum will gain tremendous confidence from this game

He could be scary come the last rounds of the competition !!!

Just back from the Riser and what a game! The next table had one solitary Weagles fan, decked out in the colours and noisemaking whenever they scored - odd experience in a crowded Swans pub! But all part of the fun. Mrs d told her about our Eagles-supporting son to encourage her.

What a terrific spread of talent and effort today - not a single passenger, everyone put in with effort. I was concerned when Laids went off, and downright worried when Harry went off, but he returned and did his bit.

The Eagles are a hard scrapping team and it was very satisfying to see us match them in that area and come over the top of them with some outstanding goals and heaps of behinds.

They were all good but Hannebery was IMO at his wonderful best; leaves me wondering if anyone has ever put more effort into a game. And the defence was terrific. All in all a thrilling and satisfying game to watch.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

If Laids misses next week due to his head knock it would be great to see Marsh or Aliir get a run but I suppose it's more likely to be Jones. I like Jones but it would be great to see one of the others make their debut. I think Marsh might be the better, like-for-like replacement for Laidler than Aliir. Others' thoughts?

I can't see them promoting Marsh off the rookie list just as a short term replacement.

Not exactly like for like, but if Laidler isn't good to go I'd like to see Jones in. I feel like in the last couple of games that it's when the ball hits the ground after a contest in our D50 that we struggle- I don't know if our problem with getting the ball out of defence is so much a lack of having the people to deliver the ball out so much as it is they're regularly under pressure because they had to go get it themselves. I think Jones scrambles for the ball in the D50 particularly well, and in modern football it helps to have a backline in and under/3rd man down (ha!) guy.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Rohan comes off the LTIL this week, so we only have AJ's spot for someone to be elevated. And based on this game, I'd say it's looking like Papley will be the one.

Let's give Laids a rest against Brisbane; not much for him to do anyway. Give Aliir his maiden game.

Whilst Marsh might be reasonable replacement I think like for like is clearly Aliir.

                        Great game.
Thought Tippet did fantastically against Natanui. Hanners and JPK really dug in during the 3rd to get us back in the game.
Reg, Ted and Rampe, Smooch great all game.

Really enjoying the game time we are giving the younger kids

The reports of Ted's death are greatly exaggerated.

Great game, no bad players today.

Great to see Ted turn back the clock. Papley had a good game but the highlight for me was a breakout games from Hewett, he must be miles ahead of Towers now.

Re Laidler it has to be Jones, I saw AA play today and he is so far off AFL standard it isn't funny.

There is a definite difference in the team this year, a toughness on field and a belief in each other, I'm calling it the Kirk factor.
For me the highlight of the game was Teddy's goal, the happiness on his face and the teams was beautiful.

Really? Pretty sure that is not entirely correct at all Baz, in fact, it is almost utter bull dust. Your such a negger, stop it. It's unhealthy.
