Leave aside everything else he did, and it was awesome, but I think I'm still wetting myself over the tap over the shoulder to Cunningham in the middle. Oh man
'Delicious' is a fun word to say

One thing that stood out last night was the outstanding field kicking of Dane Rampe. That bullet to Heeney in the 1st quarter was out of this world.

Although the leg can be inconsistent, I'm thinking that his kicking can become as good as Malceski's.

He is quickly becoming on of the best medium defenders in the comp and his composure has improved enormously, there was a stage last year where he was making quite a few errors but he has tightened that up without losing his attacking and adventurous style of play. He is incredibly consistent and he does have an absolute peach of a left foot.

He's been an enormous bonus pickup for us, much like Papley this year and I'm prepared to say that if he keeps up his form that an All Australian selection is not out of the question.

Yes, Heeney is a wonderful footballer and athlete but what amazes me is that as a teenager (now a 20 yo), and with such little AFL experience, he has such a clever, intuitive football mind. Just lovely to watch. I imagine Buddy must be delighted to have him alongside.

Just distracting from Collingwoods poor performance under Buckley. An appointment Eddie was directly responsible for.

Also, can't blame us for recruiting Jesse White. That was their own fault. We knew for years he was useless, if they had bothered watching any of our games they would have known.

Bud Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Absolute stars.

And I am getting to the point where I'd add Rampe: he has improved in leaps and bounds, both literally and figuratively!
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I think clubs will learn to be very careful of players the Swans are looking to trade.
If we can't get them right, there is little chance.

Bird looks like being a fringe player from now on.
White showed some signs but never got there.

Only players worth taking from us are the Jetta types who are looking to get out for some reason, and are in good form.
But then that's no guarantee (Malcheski)

Sadly Jetts is out of form and the talk is that he will be dropped to the WAFL to try to find his touch.

Despite us being scrupulously fair at the trading table it is extremely rare for a player to go on to great things when he leaves us and quite common for it occur when players join us.

Imagine if we got him back as a free agent....

                        He sure is... now.
But when he was traded he was doing ok.
In the end he'll be ok. Was never going to be a top 10 player at any club though - just a handy opportunist and sometimes goal sneak.

So far we've done way better in that deal. I'm sure at the time the Swans considered that trade topped towards the Eagles.

Am I right in thinking that McVeigh started across the half-forward line? If true, it certainly wasn't working. He was good yesterday though. I thought our defence looked very lacklustre in the first half as well - there was a lack of effort which gave Essendon too many uncontested possessions. (Rampe in particular I thought was a bit lazy, although he get better as the game went on). I too liked Zac Jones - thought he had a good game. Great attack on the ball and good speed to run the ball out of defence.

The Buddy-Heeney combo is amazing - incredible to see them doing their thing. Could become the most dangerous and prolific forward combo in the league.

I would like to see Papley given a rest. He's doing well but he really needs to work on his skills. Surely we have someone in reserves who can fill that role - I hear BJ had a good game, perhaps him.

Essendon had a zone going for most of the first half and it caused us some issues in terms of our ball movement. With the ball they had a pretty simple plan which was to hold on to possession first (hence lots of uncontested possessions and marks) and then hit players on the lead if open. This required their players to work hard and they outran us in the first half

Unfortunately for them his kind of taxing game style took its toll in the second half and they couldn't maintain that work rate coming off consecutive six day breaks.

Good story here re the interest in AFL and support Heeney has generated in Newcastle. A bus load of 70 supporters came down to watch Saturday's match.

Spot on Ugg - they were fast, exposed us for pace and showed up a few of the defenders who have become comfortable playing from behind. They were unlikely to keep it going all game, but there will be other teams better suited to doing so than them.
