I'm convinced the AFL had something to do with the biased umpiring.

The Giants 100th game. Their first full house at Spotless.

They wanted to hand GWS the win. Give them a bit of promotion. All signs point to it. All of it cannot be a coincidence.

Schmitt is a terrible umpire. Heeney's head is taken off in a marking contest and it's play on. GWS player hardly touched and gets a free.

I agree with bloodsbigot...it makes sense, they are desperate for GWS to succeed....and it's not working

That Buddy 'touch' off the boot is what had me convinced that some umpires were given instructions. I wouldn't put it passed Ray Chamberlain. He seems like the type that would go along with it.

If it weren't for that touch, I would just put it down to Chamberlain's hatred for the swans and just general incompetency.

They've been given instructions. Without question. It all has to do with giving GWS advertisement in their 100th game, at their home ground, in front of their first sell-out crowd. The AFL knew how bad a loss would look.

We have been bad but the umpiring has been disgusting.

LOL and they're giving a happy Steve Waugh shot wearing GWS colours.

How low can the AFL stoop?

@@@@ing bull@@@@ rigged advertisement game of GWS.

Umpires were given instructions. End of story.

Seriously! Yes the umpiring was shocking but no worse than most home sides usually get! To start claiming conspiracies and blaming that for our loss is a little bit silly i would think...

We were totally out played for most of the game by an extremely skilled young side who, as i said earlier, will likely continue to dish up performances like this against us for the next 10 years or so.

We'd want to hope we take our chance this year and snatch the premiership that appears gettable (injuries pending) because it's only going to get harder and harder to beat this mob!

Worst umpiring I've seen since a shocker in the west in the '06 H&A season.
Yes, Schmitt is really quite MacLarenesque. That's assuming the game you had in mind was the one we lost by two points, with a 33 to 10 free kick count, and in which MacLaren's contribution was something like 16 to 1.

The umpiring had nothing to do with it, the better team won- it happens.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Has anyone heard any news on Tippett's injury? It seemed an odd one? Certainly didn't seem to be knee, as the ice and then the dressing, were on the high lateral side of the calf? Maybe a strain at the top of a calf muscle? Some sort of tendon damage?
Anyway, I thought that Sinclair did a pretty good fill in job. Kennedy got going well in the second half. Most of the backline played well, especially Grundy and Mills.
Was almost on the verge of a great comeback, until 'rhymes with' Schmitt snuffed out any momentum that we had.

Under real pressure, in big time games, the Swans today have shown that they still have too many players who cannot stand up. We can go so far with players like Harry C. etc but when the whips were cracking how many players showed focus, desperation or composure? Sure it was tough without Tippo and then with Rohan going down and the umpires seemingly biased but the bubble has burst re the Swans invulnerability. At least the young players will have seen how Kennedy, Jack, Hanners, Rampe, even McVeigh, Mills and perhaps Lloyd dug in and gave their all (I was only listening to a broadcast!).

Not surprised by the outcome, but sad to see how seriously deficient our skills are.

Cunningham just doesn't do enough. I'm losing patience with him.
Lloyd had another poor game. We really depend on his skills, but he's become so inconsistent from game to game. He gets bowled over too easily and is just kicking to nowhere.
I'm beginning to agree with barry that McVeigh has become a liability and needs to play in the reserves to see if he can recapture some form.
McGlynn also not much value. Once Papley is fit, the swap is on.
Parker's game has been way below the standard of the first few games.

We need to generate more run and quicker ball movement out of our backline. I think we have a spot for another LTIL rookie elevation, which I would give to Newman. I've been happy with the way Marsh has been playing. He's been a good inclusion. We may have to bring Naismith in for Tippett. I would give Aliir another go as well. His ressies form has been solid. Abe Davis could be worth a go as well. And perhaps Reid will be ready for senior footy next week.

It's sad to see the ice pack on Rohan's hamstring yet again. It could be season over for him and maybe even career over given his inability to get through more than a handful of games uninjured. I was counting on him being a big part of our future.

The Giants were far from their best today. They will get better and will be hard to beat in September.
