Got back from the game about an hour ago, it was a beauty, as you all saw. I am so rapt! Great performance from the boys, Rampe was brilliant, Mills should get his 'Rising Star' nom for that one (that tackle on Hawkins was a cracker), midfield 'on song' led brilliantly by Jack (take that Mum!!), Allir looks likely with a strong game tonight (kept Clarke very quiet), and Towers rising, all in all, a great night!! I was with my daughter and her boyfriend and his Dad in the Cats members stand in all my Swans 'finery' (great view and I brought an extra Swans scarf for my daughter to put on!), and I must say, the Cats fans are all class. Sure they were disappointed, but they're a civilised mob compared to Hawk and Magpie fans, and took the win on the chin with a calm acceptance that they had simply been outplayed by a better side on the night. In the members stand at least! Great win.......now for the Dawks! Go Swans!!

Here's your answer (from afl.com.au's 'Five Talking Points' article): "Stop Henderson, stop Geelong?
Swans coach John Longmire sprung a huge surprise by starting defensive stalwart Ted Richards at full-forward. The premiership defender had a specific role - to quell Lachie Henderson's influence on the contest ? and it worked in the Swans' favour. Richards, who had not played at senior level since round nine after working his way back from concussion, engaged Henderson in the air which, most of the time, did not allow the agile defender to sag off and help Tom Lonergan and Harry Taylor in their respective one-on-one battles. Henderson had been in stellar form leading into Friday night and has been a big reason for the Cats' defensive success this season, but the Swans and the wily Richards may have shown other teams the blueprint in breaking down the Cats' miserly defence." Sounds reasonable.....and well played Horse! PS: Yes, I'm still up, too pumped to sleep, but I'm off to bed now.....

Hewett is quickly becoming a key plsyer in our midfield. He was influential in a number of 50/50 contests. He has a very good footy brain.
Rohans marking and pressure across the half forward line again reiterated his rightful position is forward
Mills got a lot of ball and used it well. But also hard at it. There was one instance in the 3rd quarter where he threw his body into the contest, we won the ball and I simply raised my beer in solute.
Allir has won me over and Laidler will be worried.
Naismith repaid my faith. Fought his way back into the game when Smith got on top in the 2nd quarter.
And finally Towers. I have been critical as many know. But at half time i was on the bandwagon. He was playing great off half back. By games end i had one foot off the wagon due to some really silly mistakes. But I'm warming to him.
And i still don't get Teddies selection in the forward line.
          Bring on Hawthorn.
Me neither , can anyone with superior AFL knowledge explain why ?

Personally from watching the game on TV i thought it was a brilliant game day plan from Horse. Having Buddy leading out of the 50 and Teddy occupying the other tall defender. Left space over the back for our midfielders to kick goals and players like papley and Hewett to work their magic or lock the ball in. Geelong is known for owning the air in the oppostition forwardline. Selfless game by Ted (especially with his predictment) amd Bud.
I've been very critical in the past of our gameday coaching but was impressed last night.

Mills and Rampe were super impressive as well

Teddy was playing on Lachie Henderson. You'd imagine he'd go to Sam Gibson this week against the Hawks. Is he quick enough?

Who would have thought, that going into a game v. Geelong on their home patch with 4 players who had played less than 10 games, 6 who had played less than 15, and then have Ted up in the forward line, we would have had such an extraordinary win! Four quarters of good football with some brilliant patches - the bar is now set high. What a great game!

Look forward to seeing if Horse and co. have any tricks up their sleeve for the Hawks game.

Clearly picked to play a defensive role/another tall forward target, so to try and curb the influence of Lachie Henderson down back - it worked very well last night.

I love it when he taps a big one toward goal and then runs onto the ball himself. Bloody hard to stop when he gets going at 207 & over 100kg. The difference between last week where Minson took us apart in the ruck and last night was Naismith gae us first use out of the centre square and even though he was being hald down at the around ground stoppages he managed to hold his own.

Naismith really seemed to belt the ball forward in the centre bounces and seemed to give us a real advantage which Geelong were unable to react too

How good was it to see the youngsters - many of whom struggled in those last critical seconds last week - just gain more confidence as the game went on? Naismith, Jones, Lloyd and Alir - all were dominant in that last quarter!

Did Jones make a mistake last night? Maybe one scrambled kick to the sideline that was paid deliberate. He looked an absolute leader out there (after being one of the culprits from last week). As of course did Mills.

Tremendous win against (don't believe the press) a very good team on their home turf coming off a 6 day break. Just super tough when and where it counted - the passion of the opening minutes was fantastic.

                                Bring on the Hawks!!
