    FWIW my changes are.

    Out: Jones, McGlynn and Richards
In: Newman if elevated, else Cunningham, Heeney, X. With our ever growing injury list, and against my gut feeling, Towers stays in by default.

I know it is not popular on here but I would like to give our core midfielders a weeks rest in the coming weeks so they are a little fresher for the finals. Also enables Foote to get 4 or 5 games under his belt if needed in the finals.

Sigh my dream is that Sydney fans became more inventive with their chants like this.

That is what the break is for after round 23. In the mean time we need everything to go right to stay in the top four, which includes putting the foot down when we can to ensure a good percentage.
I just had play with the ladder predictor and by my guesstimates we need to win every game to make the top four.

Losing the last one against the Tigers, a real possibility, means we need a good percentage to stay in the top four. We don't have any time to rest our top players. I am also very nervous about the Saints game at docklands. They can play a pressure game there that is as good as anyone's.

            • Rnd 18 Blues - WIN
            • Rnd 19 Dockers (away) WIN
            • Rnd20 Power (H) should WIN but if the Power show up for more than two quarters ...
            • Rnd21 Saints (A) WIN but a very real chance of a loss.
            • Rnd22 Roos (A) WIN but the Roos should have some players back by this round so could easily be a very different team to what we are seeing now
            • Rnd23 Tiggers (H) WIN/LOSS our bogey team of the last few years. Home ground advantage means nothing here.

We can win all of these but we could also drop the last three leaving us outside the top four. Again, I don't think we can afford to rest any of our "core" players.

He always puts in a shocker against the Hawks. Do they target him or is the tempo too much for him?

Don't be so certain about the away game against Freo either! Typical of our luck it appears that Pav will sit out this weeks away game against Gold Coast so he can play his 350th game at home against guess who???

Rabid crowd and fired up team playing for a favorite son on a huge milestone game spells trouble! I hope we can lift accordingly!

Heeney for Hewett, give him a good midfield run in the 2's. Mcglyyn on Notice ......again
                    Laidler for Jones, proven defender
X for Ted, we have to get serious about Teds role, either he is a defender or don't put him in. X's stats regardless of comp are hard to ignore

                    Other options include
Leave Ted in and play him down back releasing Rampe from a big opponent
Put Cunningham in as a midfield run-with and leave Mitchell to get his own ball.
The best game HC ever played was when he destroyed S Hill a few years back in a tagging role....... Cant for the life of me understand why he doesn't have that role more often

We shouldn't drop any of those games, although who knows with the Tigers. At least this year they're not going to be playing for a spot in the finals in Round 23

They'll be fighting hard to finish ninth.

They are a long way off it Annie, but they may finish strongly to take up the coveted spot.

I must admit i forgot about the break btween rnd23 and finals.
But I am nervous about losing one of our inside midfielders and then maybe exposing Foote to the heat of finals without any lead in games. And I'm only assuming Foote would be next in line if we lost a Mitchell or Kennedy or Parker. Would be nice to give him a sighter to the extra pace and pressure of a AFL game. I would rather do that against Carlton or Fremantle or Richmond than Hawthorn or Adelaide.

Now that we know that Zak Jones has a syndesmosis injury we should plan on him not being available for the finals, or at least not having any more senior game before finals. Under the circumstances I think we should give Newman a go. I gather from other posters that we have another spot open on the senior list due to having 4 on the LTIL, so we can easily upgrade him. He seems the most logical choice to fill that running halfback role and has been playing that position consistently well in the reserves all season. He's 23 yo, had a few years of VFL experience before we drafted him, so he should be ready by now. He seems to have everything in place for a call up. I don't know what the objections would be.

Don't mind Newman but for me has never looked like a Snr long term player

Heeney has been openly discussed as a possibility to play Zac jones role by Horse today and for me given that it is half the time up in the middle I think Heeney can do this much better then Newman

Probably comes down to what they are going to do with Mcglynn also

I would love to see Heeney play zacs role against Carlton
