The only thing that would worry me is the surface - the AFL should be inspecting it now to make sure it is in decent shape for finals.

We play ANZ just fine and it is close to the MCG in size and shape, which is good practice.

      Todays overall was 21 - 9.

      Schmitt 12-0*.

I was another to write a similar post. Why are umpiring decisions not reported in detail like player stats?

thought Watson and bennett were poor on tv. Try to tell viewers what they had just seen.

How come our players keep kicking into the man on the mark - a fundamental error - so frustrating

In fairness, the surface is usually pretty good when they have a week to prepare. The problems start when they play a game in rectangle mode the night before a game in AFL mode.
The last game on ANZ before the finals is on the Friday night beforehand, so they will have a week to prepare.
If Swans and Crows wrap up the top 2 spots next weekend I reckon you can absolutely lock in Crows QF on Thursday night and our QF at ANZ on Friday night....

Its the same length but is 20 metres narrower - a huge difference in dimensions.

Agree about the surface- the last regular nrl season game there is friday 2 september, so the ground should have a week to recover after that, which should help ensure a decent surface.

I'll never forget the laugh we got out of the Footy Record a few years back when both Schmitt and now retired umpire Matthew Head were umpiring in the same game. In the record they were listed next to each other so it read nicely..."Schmitt Head..."

I thought the whole coverage was poor - very inadequate replays; slow updating scores; almost no tally of free kicks, forward entries etc.

Not sure whether it was a Tasmania thing, or a Rio concentration from Ch 7

I thought Benny was pretty good yesterday; applied a lot of pressure, kicked a goal and set up a few others with good passes. If KJ is fit to play next week it could pose a selection dilemma, because I would assume that we will want to play our finals side, especially given that we have the following week off.

Our pressure across the ground was not quite up to what it has been, while the Roos' midfield, which had been down in recent weeks, really came to play. Wells and Dal Santo had their best games for quite a while, and the rest of their midfielders were very solid. I'm sure opposition coaches put the heat on their midfields knowing that they have to step up if they have any chance of beating the Swans.

Hewett had a good 9 possession game and despite not kicking a goal Richards was good as well. You don't have to put up big numbers to have a positive impact on the game. Papley and Heeney also didn't post big numbers, but played well. The ball spent a lot of time in our back half, which probably reduced the stats for our forward players.

We need a fit and firing Buddy Franklin to win a premiership. He has such a big impact on our games.

Scottee and others; watching the game I didn't notice the discrepancy in free kick count, but I think it is a long bow to think Umpire Schmitt is anti Swans. If you listen to SEN and supporters of other clubs, there is a conspiracy against almost every club. Maybe the umpiring is not up to standard but to think all umpires play favourites is a bit much for me to digest.

Wasn't Head the umpire who was overheard saying something he shouldn't have, on a flight back from the West.

Yes and the media lauded it as a famous Tigers victory, which was pretty funny. I wasn't impressed at the time; felt like it went beyond "resting". I hesitate to say "throwing", but I was at the game and it did not feel like the Swans were trying to win. Just felt un-Swans-like to me.

Was that game also Naismith's debut? He's come a long way since then.

And also the game that Richmond had to win to get into the 8. Then they were smashed first week of the finals!

Is there any news on how Buddy is?

Yes Nico, perceptions can be deceiving. But the raw stats seem to be telling a story. If there was a detailed breakdown of frees, like who paid them and what they were for, there would be a much more accountable umpiring panel.
