One thing that I think is absolutely 100% certain though is that if we are to make a late play for JOM then we must find someone else to pay Tippett's wages in full.
I can't see the JOM deal falling over now as the Hawks have invested too much to get pick 10 and have the deal fall over. The Roar has a "pundit" suggesting that Schoenmakers and Hartung will go to the Lions who will then send Hanley to the Suns along with the Hawks Pick 10. I'd suggest that is about as good as deal as the Suns will get. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

This only happens in a parallel universe where Terry Wallace is the Gold Coast list manager.
In another parallel universe Hawthorn trade their 5 time B & F winner + Jordan Lewis + Josh Hill + Schoenmakes + Hartung + Pick 23 + their 2017 1st round pick for a man in wheelchair. A drunk sports reporter gets on the radio the next day and repeats the words 'Clarko is a Genius' for 52 minutes before someone named The Ox knocks him over the head and drags him out of the studio. It sounds like it would make a good science fiction movie, although a bit far-fetched for my taste.Comment

I think that Pick 10 to the Suns would, in the words of Jake Niall (whose prune shaped face I'll miss after trade week is over), form the plank of the deal. Hanley just gets the acceptable player to them albeit indirectly, since the Hawks weren't prepared to lose a genuine top half player. I think Shoenmakers and Hartung will work for the Lions actually as they try and shore up the list but they are sooo far behind the pack. The only thing is they are starting to get some strong local content up there but they need Schache and the beanpole kid Hipwood to have breakout years.
I think Pick 10 plus Hanley works. If he was fully fit without an injury cloud I reckon you'd throw an extra first rounder in.Comment

There could be a big man joining the Demons that many wouldn't have 'Tipped'... as if he was moving, he could have gone further north. #hmm

I imagine it's what's holding Nankervis back from joining Richmond who are apparently quite keenComment

There's a review of Lewis Melican on the Swans' website. It sounds like he's staying for another year. This would mean that we need 3 senior spots for Papley, Newman and Foote (as Melican will be the 3rd year rookie).
It seems to me that Hiscox gets delisted and we trade 2 more players in order to get 4 live picks. Towers is likely to be one and Nankervis the other. I think we would pull the plug on Tippett if someone would take his salary, but this is unlikely.
I wouldn't be interested in trading our picks 14 and 17 for picks 5 or 6, which would likely get you either Ainsworth or Tarranto. Both are good players, but not so much better than other players likely to be available in the the mid teens - Berry, Witherden, Venables to name a few. Two of those seem better than one of Ainsworth or Tarranto.
I would also have BJ, Robinson and Marsh on the trade table, mainly because I think they will struggle to get senior time, although I can't see any interest in them from other clubs.Comment

It's more likely that Newman and Rose get senior spots with Jones, Mills, Heeney and Hewett seeing more midfield time. I also think Foote may move past Robinson this year in the pecking order. Saying that, Robinson is a handy player and his injury was a serious setback for him. He seems to be well liked by the coaching staff, so he could push for senior selection with a strong preseason.Comment
