X Richards obviously has a higher value of himself than the club does. We re moving closer and closer to the rugby league model were players change clubs every 2nd or 3rd year

X is a good player but if they are as confident in Sam Reid as they sound he really is surplus to us as a fwd. with the emergence of AA in defence not helping his cause either.
He is like Everitt was too us and was really helped along by a 6 game win streak when he first got a game.
I have no doubt clubs are out there putting better offers to him as is the case with Nanka.Comment

Package off Nanakervis and X to Richmond for pick upgrades.
So the latest possible list numbers, our main list is 38, minus Ted, Benny, Drex, Mitchell, X, Nanka (Hiscox) = 32 (31), plus Papley, Newman (Foote)?) = 35 (34) so 3 (4) ND picks. Fringe trading will now almost certainly be pick upgrades.Comment

It's hard to begrudge Xav requesting a trade. I mean we all had him labelled as a delist until late July and I'm sure we have tabled a fairly modest contract to him. These guys have a short career and if he can get a better deal elsewhere then good luck to him, he seems like a quality bloke and he toiled for a number of years for those 10 games.
I would hope that we may be in the position now to make Nankervis a reasonably attractive offer to stay financially and football pathway there is a clear long term future with Lurch leaving at the end of 2018 (unless he has another in built contract extension).
I suspect he is gone though and that being the case I'd think Deano will stay so it will be seven senior slots available. One will be a replacement ruckman but I think we'll try and engineer pick 39 into a first rounder (or at least early 20s) with whatever we get for Nankervis and Richards. It would also be good if we could get Pick 52 into the mid 40s.Comment

From what I've heard, and I'm sure you'll all enjoy the irony of this, he's requested the trade because he believes he can't afford to live in Sydney on what the Swans are offering him.Comment

I don't understand the fuss over the Vickery deal. If the Hawks have the cap space and money and want to spend it on Vickery then they are welcome to in my book. Vickery takes the chance they'll offer him peanuts in two years, they take the chance he'll spud it up and then walk.
If the AFL are unhappy with the.compensation pick then they should change their stupid formula, or better yet, abolish it.Comment

Xav certainly wasn't worth paying overs for. I wish him all the best wherever he goes and I'd like to see him go and rack up 100 games elsewhere but my feeling is that probably won't happen.Comment

For all the money flowing at the higher end of the payscale the likes of Towers, BJ and Xav would be on pretty modest salaries (I would think a base of not much more than $100,000) . Under the CBA players also get close to $4,000 match payments per game so for these guys playing regularly is the difference between a decent salary and a good one. Yes they get to play sport for a living but most of the guys end up washed up at 25-26 looking for an alternative career when all their mates are well on their pathComment
