What a disaster for the Hawks if they don't get O'Meara, giving up two second round picks in a good draft and their future first rounder for him

Sydney currently lodging paperwork for Toby Nankervis' move to Tigers for pick 46.

+1. You can say that again! Not to mention clearing out Mitchell and Lewis even though they didn't really want to. If they miss out on O'Meara (even if it allows them to have a big war chest for next year) it will go down as one of the worst trade periods ever. (Especially if you don't wait to see what happens to the picks. I'm with ugg on this one, the trade should be evaluated without considering what turns out with the picks which is just speculative at this stage.) Or at least the worst of all clubs this year. They will have gone backwards.

Why would we do this! Pick 35 downgraded to 46 after 3 years and showing signs.

Not good enough for Nank. Why are we doing it? Perhaps we feel we owe him that much? Pick 46 is of limited value (at least not nothing, we'll probably use it). Could have afforded to see if he would walk to the draft if we didn't accept terms. He might have stayed. But I suppose it's fair enough that he wants to get a game and if we rate him 4th of our rucks it's not fair to him for us to insist on keeping him when he can have a shot at best 22 elsewhere.

Played their hand too early. Suns know they now are totally committed to O'Meara and can demand the kitchen sink.

Re: Nank that's just the nature of the game these days, the power is with the player and we've just got to suck it up

Realistically he's probably worth a pick in the early 30's, 27 is probably overs and given the Tiges overpaid for Prestia we were never going to get it out of them

The trick now will be to see if we can trade a couple of our later picks for an earlier one

The only clubs that will deal with us is the Academy clubs and they don't need them.

Feels like we're failing badly this trade season. Hope some good comes of this

If the Hawks miss out on O'Meara then it will be a good trade season.

The lesson from Nankervis is that it's a waste of time drafting a ruckman when you can just poach one that is opportunity starved at another club.

For us, the exception would be getting one through the academy like Naismith

Draft Midfielders, Buy Key Position players.....only exception for an interstate club is when the KPP are home grown

Lost again. Now two loses Mitchell unders at pick 14 should have held out longer and maybe got 10 that hawks took from sts and pick 46 for nanna when we used pick 35 for him and get 46 which is unders as he has played in semi finals and has had at least finals experience. Bad year for trades we are too easy,

I'm not that sad about losing Nankervis - but may change my mind if Sinclair and Tippett are injured next year. But I think we had to facilitate letting him go. We have a good reputation of not playing hardball when our players want to leave and the players respecting us because of it. I'm sorry about Mitchell going but there is a limit to how many slow ball extractors we could retain - he was one of our better players in the GF but he was also the one who wouldn't commit to us this season.
