Tony Olango v WA (2016 Under 18 Championships) - YouTube

What I like about many of our KPPs is that they can play both forward and back. Reid started as a defender, AJ as a forward. I think Aliir can easily switch to forward and would be great as a forward-2nd ruckman. Davis has played just about everywhere in his first 2 years. Logue would be another one in this class. Only Talia would be a permanent defender. We would be very flexible with the others. I think it's part of our development program to try players in different roles and it's been very successful.

As for the player movements, as noted, we now have 5 primary list players out. I think we need to get to 7 if we want to use our 4 picks under 50. With the salary cap squeeze it will be hard to expand the list beyond 38, except perhaps to match a bid for Jake Brown. We may need to leave a 39th spot open in case someone bids on Brown and we are forced to take him onto our main list (unless there's some rule that I don't know about that allows us to rookie list him if he is bid after such and such pick number). I think Hiscox has to go and probably Richards will be delisted, since he was the one to ask for a trade. We might offer to rookie list him if he is not signed as a DFA. I would imagine that Towers will sign for another year unless he has offers from other clubs. No great loss if either goes. I don't think Marsh can be upgraded because we need to use the 3rd rookie elevation for Foote who has to be upgraded if we keep Melican. Anyway, I think Foote is a more likely long term prospect than Marsh.

Also seemed to win plenty of the ruck contests pretty easily. Something that would only improve under the guidance of 'ruck whisperer' Taubert.

            Hawthorn Cheating Again!!

This trade which facilitated the JOM trade was clearly orchestrated by the AFL. Take a look at this trade below:

            CARL
Carlton receives third-round selection (No.48 at time of trade) and two fourth-round selections (No.66 and No.70 at time of trade)
            From Hawthorn

            HAW
            Hawthorn receives 2017 second-round selection
            From Carlton

Carlton recruited 4 players and only lost Tuohy. They are sitting with picks 5 and 25. There are loads of uncontracted players available for signing that would be better prospects than a pick 48. So why on Earth would Carlton trade their 2017 2nd round pick, probably one in the low 20s, for a useless bunch of late picks? Let's see if Carlton get some favours next year. Watch this space.

Add this to the Vickery trade manipulation and you have one of the worst trade frauds in recent memory. The AFL gave JOM to Hawthorn for pick 10.

Why didn't the AFL see fit to hand us an early 2017 2nd round pick to bring the Tom Mitchell trade up to fair value?

Well, you can answer that one yourselves.

This is a clear draft manipulation.

Even is the spuds at Carlton finish 12th next year they have given up pick 24 in a stronger draft for picks 48, 66 and 70.

They have traded a pick worth 785 points using the afl formula we get penalized with and got 421 points in value. When they held all the cards in the deal.

I don't think SOS is that stupid to make the dumbest trade in history.

FFS they didn't even try and make it legit by throwing in a player.

Get on twitter and get on Big Footy and get agitating because this should be a story. Carlton fans should be outraged.

Do Hawthorn and the AFL really think we are all this stupid?

Carlton have effectively funded this trade but they'll get a backhander some way to compensate.

Gold Coast have done well to hold out, much better than the pick 48 hawthorn peddled to them so no dramas from their perspective.

One can only imagine the squealing if we had constructed this sort of deal with the Lions.

Corrupt and rotten to its core is the AFL

The downside: a range of concerning injuries, with a bout of osteitis pubis being the main concern.
To be fair my "knowledge" is based solely on reading through the various draft reports etc.

Olango should be available at either of our picks in the 40s I'd say. Rucks usually go late if at all and apart from English (who is a freak) no other ruckmen seem to be mentioned in the top 30 and there's a few others that seem to get more attention than olango.

I expect we will just take the best available young ruck but if there are a few available at 46 we might chance our arm that he's still there a few picks later

This arrangement, I won't insult anyone's intelligence by calling it a trade, does not pass the most simple of sniff tests.

It stinks and it stinks to the high heavens. Do hawthorn really think they can pull this off without anyone realizing the trade came about by collusion. They were so bloody arrogant they though the Suns would fold and take 48 and when they got to 1.30pm they @@@@ing started @@@@ting themselves and they concocted this grubby little deal.

If Robbo, big tough talking Robbo, and his media mates had any spine the herald sun and The Age would run this as their back page story today. Not how little Jaeger gets his dream trade but how that arrogant club treats the rest of the comp with contempt.

But they won't, Robbo and all his gutless mates like that frigging weirdo Jake Niall will all just @@@@ing sit there smugly and let this go unchallenged.

It makes me sick because it is so corrupt and so blatant and you just @@@@ing know they are going to get away with it with no sanction at all because it is ONE @@@@ING BIG MELBOURNE BOYS CLUB run by a pompous clown

Well I guess we know which club Ben Jarman will nominate as his Father/Son selection as Hawthorn have no picks with points value left in this years draft and their best next year is Carlton's round 2 selection next year. Their first selection this year is 88 which they got for Sam Mitchell. Those late picks that Carlton got from Hawthorn might not be completely useless. They are all ahead of Hawthorns first pick and Carlton have a heap of uncontracted players that they are probably preparing to dump so they might just use them.

A few weeks ago Ireland said we were drafting this year. True to his word we didn't trade anyone in. So I would expect us to use all 4 picks.

Please no! Ruckmen take forever to train and he has only being in the game three years??

We need players with some skill base, we don't need another Galloway.

There are plenty of big men from the SA combine who have ruck skills and have played the game for years.

On our drafting, we have enough midfielders. and next year the draft will also be strong in midfielders.

So the thinking is too get the best KPP and Griffin Logue is very good.

But the interesting thing is that there may be some very good midfielders left by the time it get to pick 9.

Both the CG and GWS have academy players they will want to lock away, they have picks later on in the draft for project players.

Freo will want to one of the two WA boys, English or Petrevski-Seton

That will mean that maybe Tarranto, Brodie, Scrimshaw or Florent, will be available.

If for some reason Brodie or Tarranto is available, get them of ahead of Logue, class like that that we can get come once every ten years.

If not, Logue at 9, then fingers cross Florent at 19, Luke Ryan at 46 from Coburg, some project ruckman at 49, there actually some good one out there.

I just hope Harley doesn't pull any bull@@@@; unless we have truly great players at 9 and 19, we will have totally wasted the Tommy Mitchell trade.

You just can't go wrong with Logue!

Yes we will use four picks - 9, 19 and after the collapse of a few GWS picks to fund Setterfield and Perryman (who we may bid on at pick 9 BTW) our late picks could be effectively 42 & 45. So on that basis there will be at least one possibly two more delistings from the main list.

I thought we did well this trade period. Started with picks 17, 39 & 57, ended with 9, 19, 42 & 45 so in reality picks 9, 42 & 45 for Mitchell and Nankervis. We also eased salary cap problems right now and going forward.

Pick 9 opens up a lot of high end talent, we know that McCluggage and McGrath are 1 & 2, Bowes will be 4, 6 or 8, Freo will take one of the WA guys you would think so some very talented types will be available there. I'm hoping Taranto who was very impressive when I watched some U18 games but think he will be just gone or Logue reads really well and will be ready when Reg retires, but he may be a Freo target at pick 7.

Pick 19 is still in the thick part of talent, speedy good kicking types should still be available according to Twomey's Phantom Draft.

In a deep draft picks 42 & 45 will allow some good depth or project types to be added. Overall I'm rapt in what we've done, good work recruiting team.

On the face of it, it is a dumb trade by Carlton.
                                But maybe not.
This is a closed trading community - the same players trading with each other every year. So Hawthorn is in a bind and asks Carlton for a "favour". Carlton obliges, and next year or the year after, Hawthorn returns the favour.
                                Is that manipulation? or trading?
It could be considered as a long term trade - Carlton supplies now, and Hawthorn pays later.

In that sense, not that different to our trade with Port - picks for picks, but ours was more immediate.
In every trading community I've seen this type of informal system is in place, and it all evens out in the end.
Of course, Hawthorn could stiff the Blues, but that would be monstrously stupid, as Hawthorn would then lose all credibility. Whatever you might think about Hawthorn, it is not stupid.

What I think we are seeing is the evolution of the AFL trading scheme, and it is becoming more sophisticated.
