I can't help feeling bitter and jealous about GWS selling all their top draft picks to Carlton cheap as chips. Except that GWS had no choice you'd have to classify GWS as a major loser of this trade period. A lot of talent out the door and not nearly as much coming back the other way. I don't think their NEAFL team will be as strong next year. Which perhaps is as it should be. Let them come back to the pack a little in terms of their stockpiled talent, they'll still have a best 22 that will be the envy of most if not the crazy depth to go with it.I See It But I Don't Believe It!!!!Comment

1. Lids is good but he's also 29.
2. What did they give up to get those?
Anyway, like I said, GWS' hand was forced. They had to reduce their list and their cap so they were forced to get rid of good talent and buyers took advantage of their compromised position to pay unders. Fortunately they had a lot to trade with and so are still in a great position for a team that finished 4th. More particularly, I agree with the very sensible comment of someone earlier: the mature approach is not to "win" the trades but rather to get what you need/want. I am trying to get my less mature side under control and be happy with the mature way we have handled ourselves. ;-)All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

Collingwood, Geelong and Adelaide big losers in this trade period. Too early to tell with Hawks, but if JOM can't stay fit they've shot themselves in the foot.
Did anyone else notice that the AFL gave Geelong the green light to break their own rule regarding trading of future first round picks? So now Geelong will have to trade for two first round picks over the next two years (= trading out quality players), horrible list management. Basically going all in for next year.Comment

A homesick player who hasn't played in 12 months for pick three (and then some later round picks) is pretty good for pick 2
Anyway, back to the swans. Pretty happy with how the trade period turned out. Pick 9 and 19 should deliver some quality players. Glad we didn't get shafted for Nankervis as well with the amount of Pick 70+ picks that were traded this afternoon.I See It But I Don't Believe It!!!!Comment

Its a waste of time drafting an 18 year old ruckman as the risk is too great that they'll either be a bust, or they'll get poached while waiting for an opening. Presumably we'll look for a cheap back up (either state league or delisted) as our break in emergency 4th option.
Not sure we're desperate for KPD either, not with our early picks anyway. Reg may only have a couple of years in him but with Allir, Talia and Reid, that's 4 solid options, and Davis and Melican developing in the reserves. Its also a position that you seem to be able to pick up a good mature age option.
I'm hoping we go with a couple of speedy line breaking onballers/flankers with above average foot skillsComment

Picks 9, 19, 46, 49
Given the hand we have been given (little salary cap, high picks) I think I'd mark us a C+ with the Port deal at the end upgrading from a C.
We will get a very good player at Pick 9 and Pick 19 should be good too. It will be interesting to see who we go for. I like the sound of Berry for Pick 9 but I fear that Galluci may not be available at 19. You'd think we go for a ruckman at 46 and a best available at 49.
Our trade/draft strategy also aligns with our overall list management. Use 2017 to get as many games into the debutants from 2016, clear some cap space to re-sign Heeney and the likes (we must have a "hole" of about $500,000 from what we had put aside for Mitchell that we can use for re-signings) plus some good kids in the draft.
I know we all have vastly over-inflated views of what our own players are worth but for mine it's a case of "Mission Accomplished" for Kinnear and Tom.
I think that perhaps we may be in a position to expand the senior list if required to 39 with "Tom's money". Expect us to re-sign one of Xav or Deano meaning it's seven out. Four Draft Picks per above, three rookie upgrades and a spot for Jake Brown on the main list as well.Comment
