Here is a profile of Sam Fisher: Sam Fisher ? AFL Draft Central. Sounds like he has a lot of good points but some damning weaknesses: not good at putting pressure on the opposition and can't kick on his right foot.

While I'm at it here another couple of profiles for Giants' Academy players:

    Kobe Mutch - https://afldraftcentral.com.au/player/kobe-mutch/
    Harry Perryman - https://afldraftcentral.com.au/player/harry-perryman/

At pick 9 there is a small chance we might want to put a bid on Perryman (Setterfield will be taken already) but at 19 there isn't anyone much. If, however, someone like Isaac Cumming were still available when it gets to our picks 46 and 49 then, who knows, we might place a bid. He would be a good get - but expect GWS would match the bid.

I wouldn't worry about X. He is a bit different and if he doesn't get a gig I am sure he will finish his uni degree and make a heap of cash elsewhere. Not footy. He just isn't buying into it being the be all and end all in life. Not like us.

Possibly why he was never going to make it.......heart's obviously not in it, doesn't have the 'right stuff' etc. Pity......though by the sounds of it, if he ever has any regrets, he's never going to admit it.

Surely their zone will take a haircut from this draft and rightly so. And then you look at our zone and for all the time and money we have spent (much more than GWS I suspect) all we'll probably get is a rookie or two.
Stop worrying about big bad GWS, and put more effort into why our academy zone is not delivering in 2016.

I thought also for the club to have dibbs on a player down the track they had to be nominated in the draft. Ben Davis didn't do it last year and so now the club has no academy rights. Hence he has not been nominated by sydney this year.

I don't know the answer to that nor can I find it spelt out in any AFL documents.

However I wonder if the process would be the same as when a club promotes a rookie to the senior list - that is, use the last pick to do so. For example, the Swans have said they will promote four rookies to the senior list in the forthcoming draft. They will do that by using their last four picks (not their first four picks).

So it would be a complementary procedure to allow an academy club to rookie list an academy player before the rookie draft using the last pick, not the first.

Someone else might have the definitive answer.

The class of 2016 was always weaker. In fact the class of 2017 usually pumped them when the teams played trial games or practice games at training.

Having said that the Swans are investing in Sydney (unlike GWS). The NSW junior comps are significantly lower in standard and numbers than similar comps in other states. The academy does a fantastic job and will produce a Mills or Heeney every few years, but for the most part it will contribute to the slow growth of our great game at the grassroots level in NSW.

Other important initiatives such as the Sydney Independent Schools Comp will also gradually raise the standard in NSW. In some ways this comp is just as important as the academies given the majority of elite AFL players go through the private school system.

In addition, I also think the Victorians have their heads firmly up their arses and choose not to take much interest in anyone outside of the TAC cup.

Will another club take a chance on X? Doesn't seem he is totally committed to football.

I think if an academy player is not picked in the ND they can be prelisted in Rookie draft, so we don't lose early rookie picks. Same for NSW zone players, like Ben Davis.

Ludwig, why would GC take Bowes at pick 4 when they can get him at any time by matching a bid. BL might bid for Bowes at 3 which I would expect GC to match but otherwise at 4 I would expect they would take someone like Brodie.

I wish it were easier to post these tables and get them to look the way you want. But this is close enough.

In the end I don't think SPS will slip. He's just too good a player. Think the next Cyril.

I think there will be 4 good choices at GC's pick 8, which will leave 3 for us. I think Logue has enormous upside as he didn't concentrate on footy until mid 2015, switching with rowing and basketball. Great size and athleticism. I don't see him as simply a KPD. He is really a tall utility who should be able to play whatever position best suits him.

One of the reasons Logue is a good pick at 9 is that there will be speedy midfield-forward types still available at pick 19. It's difficult to pick which of these players will go between picks 12 and 18, but I think we will be left with a choice of around 3 very good players, any of which I would be pleased to join the Swans. In my phantom draft above, I felt Gallucci had the runs on the board with a good solid season and combine. He's quick, is a great overhead mark and has good skills. Witherden and Simpkin would also be great picks. Both suffered broken legs early in the season, but look set to return. Before the injuries both were in 1st round contention, and still are.

Yes. I expect Brisbane to bid for Bowes at pick three and GC to match, but didn't bother commenting of that. Homegrown players are too good to pass up on for the Qld clubs.

I also didn't bother trying to predict where the GWS bids will fall. Setterfield will be bid top 10 and Perryman in the first round. GWS will use picks 15 plus some others down the line. Brad Sheer may also get a bid in the first round and be taken by GC will a late bid and will go into deficit. None of these will impact our 1st round draft position if we just forget about the academy players.

Valiant and excellent effort, Ludwig. Thanks for explaining why you have Bowes and Setterfield where you do. Presumably that explains why Perryman is nowhere to be seen also. Will be an exciting result for WA if they have three top 12 picks. I can't offer any dispute to your prediction but I will dip my lid to you if you come close!

I too am not convinced we will select Logue and nor that we should. I reckon I'll be happy on draft night regardless of who we pick but the proof of the pudding will come much later. I reckon there are going to be a lot of happy clubs after draft night, albeit for us the pleasure should be less speculative than usual because with our first two picks we should get some first rate talent. And even our latter two picks should bring in some genuinely promising players.

Finally, looking at your phantom draft does make me think we have done well to swap our picks 14, 17 and 31 for 9 and 19.
