I would rate Sam Walker and Bailey Morrish higher than Luke Ryan. I'm surprised he went so early. It just shows what a strong draft it is. The rookie draft will be very strong. I wouldn't expect a bid for Jake Brown who we will prelist. I'm not sure if we can prelist Ben Davis as a NSW player, or even if we will if we can.Comment

yeah
it sounded like KB indicated we were only taking 4 tonight except upgrades from rookies to on the list ?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I like the look of Darcy Cameron. Quite unusual run up for kicking but look at the goal umpires in his AFL highlight videos - they don't move - straight through the middle. Looks to be a good mark too. Might end up as a full forward IMHO.Comment

2016 trading and drafting (merged thread)
Looks like a well balanced selection of four players. A classy forward, versatile forward, key back and a ruck. I'm sure that the recruiters are happy as they will be at every club. Of course it will be 5 years before we can judge whether it was a good result or not.

Jonny Scharenberg, Zach Sproule and Mitch Hinge are unlucky not to get picked up.
Little disappointing none of our Academy guys got picked. Hopefully a couple of them can get on a rookie list.
Pick most happy about is Jack Maibaum just a shut down defender no nonsense.
Still unsure about the Florent pick only time will tell I guess.Comment

I think it was a very good draft for us. We accomplished what we needed to do. We missed out on Logue, but positionally he wasn't a priority. It was just that he was a special talent for his size. Well, you can only take who's available. I'm sure Brodie is going to be a great player for GC and was the right choice for them, having already taken Ainsworth at pick 4, so having to bid on Bowes was not an issue.
We got 2 quick and agile players with our first 2 picks who do their best work forward of centre. This should release both Heeney and Hewett to play through the midfield. Passing on a medium backman means that Jones and Mills are likely to play more behind the ball. We effectively replaced Mitchell with Florent and Nankervis with Cameron. The overall balance of the team has moved considerably toward the speedy end of the spectrum.
We added to our KPD stocks with a mobile and defensively minded KPD. And we added a 21 yo mobile ruckman who can take a mark and kick goals.
Combine results summary:
Oliver Florent: Tied for 1st in the Beep test. Tied 4th in Agility. 90cm in LF vertical jump. Tied first in clean hands test.
Will Hayward: 3rd in the standing vertical jump and tied Florent in the LF vertical jump. 2.94 in 20 mtr. sprint and was in the 2nd group for the clean hands test.
Jack Maibaum. 2nd in the agility test and in the 3rd top group in the clean hands test.
There are still plenty of good prospects left for the rookie draft. I expect we will prelist Jake Brown, but unsure if we will do any other academy players, which leaves us with 4 other picks.
Bailey Morrish and Sam Walker are 2 speedy halfbacks who were overlooked in the ND. Walker was rated at to 40 pick by many.
Tye Bedford, another kid from Halls Creek is worth a go.
There are still are fair few good midfielders and small forwards available as well.
I would still take a shot at Tony Olango with one of our picks if he's available.Comment

It's great that none of our academy boys were taken, for we would not have matched the bid and they would have gone elsewhere. I only expect Jake Brown to be prelisted, perhaps Matt Wilson is a shot too.Comment
