Not just a Professor from USyd, but the former Race Discrim Commissioner. I've heard Tim talk a number of times and like the way he talks about racism and anti-racism in this country - BUT I've always thought he was walking a fine line as the Commissioner and was holding back in some regards. Hopefully we'll hear more of him now he's moved into Academia as he deals with less (a different) kind of red tape.

Didn't say that you have to be in a position of "power" to say something.
Would have been wonderful if his indigenous mates stood up for him. They were probably scared that the same @@@@ will be heaped on them. Not that that's an excuse.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

There are dozens of players who stage for frees. There are dozens of players who do the odd dirty act. Some of them are indigenous, a few are Muslim, a few are black men from elsewhere. Only one has ever been booed in the way Adam was. And he just happens to be the one guy who was named Australian of the Year, and used that platform to speak eloquently and uncompromisingly about the state of race relations in Australia. Bigotry and hatred. Racism, as you say.Comment

Being leb only stops you from being racist to lebs.
Anyway, I don't believe you are racist, but just the way you wrote it had a slight undertone.

Yep. I reckon you hit the nail on the head. These are the things the boo-ers just couldn't handle.Comment

Unless you've been racially vilified, you have no experience with which to draw your opinion.
Undertone of what?? If you knew me, you wouldn't say that. I'm probably the biggest supporter of closing the gap this place has.
If you haven't noticed, I tend to call a spade, a spade. Not ONE indigenous player, other than Lewis Jetta, stood up and said ANYTHING about the racial vilification of Adam Goodes. Not one.
This is very disappointing. I'm sure if someone started booing Majak Daw, because he's black and Sudanese (which, no one has done, by the way), I'm pretty SURE that Aliir and others will make some noise about it. This is my point.
As I've said a million times... booing is OK in this game - sometimes, it's a dead-set requirement.
Adam's booing was racially motivated.
He dared to step outside of the "box" that society has put our Aboriginal people in to, and the people who like to keep them there, didn't like it.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Really? Have you EVER been called a w.o.g.e? Have you ever called anyone a w.o.g.e? Have you ever been told to go back to where you come from? (I was born in Penrith - not a long drive for me.)

I agree with Annie, no one made a sound about it when they should have.
They could have done so much more at the time. Indigenous or not.Comment

Another (new) gobsmacked reaction to ‘The Final Quarter’ - this time by Peter FitzSimons.
‘There is no way around it when you see the doco. Goodes was simply hunted out of the game. And to witness his treatment sheer takes the breath away.’
‘The Swans club, players and fans come out of the whole thing wonderfully well, absolutely resolute in their support for him.’
Some of us have tickets to see this film, starting from Friday night.
