Been having trouble with my f**ing broadband........Well, that hurts! Bit stunned actually. Free kick count 20-8......that hurts a lot. We weren't on song, but that stat didn't help us at all. As numb as I am and I almost hate to admit it, I sat through the medal presentation and found it strangely comforting almost, instead of seething at a loss against a team I hate ('14), I actually smiled a few times at the Dogs joy, my mind casting back to '05 and how delirious we all felt in the same position after waiting for glory for so long. I have never disliked the Dogs, except during the Libba senior era (don't like Libba junior either), but overall I don't begrudge them their joy. That is probably the only positive to come out of today. I have sometimes thought throughout this season that maybe we weren't quite ready and maybe we weren't, but to lose to the 7th placed team is a bit galling..........the off season will be all soul searching, the pre season will be more about psychological toughness than physical I think, and maybe a well worded letter from the Swans to the AFL and their umpiring department.Last edited by stevoswan; 1 October 2016, 06:08 PM.Comment

Gutted but the disappointment today is nothing like 2014, at least we turned up and sometimes you get beaten by a better team.
For those blaming the Umps for the loss today, Grow Up!
I think we just had too many passengers. Rohan and Tippett had their second shocker in Grand Finals and Xavier, Hewett and Papley looked out of their depth. Our midfield was great but I thought Parker was a bit quiet. Buddy getting injured was also a huge blow even though he battled on manfully. Mills had possibly his worst game of the season, not sure how much of that was injury related. McVeigh was OK and Grundy and Rampe immense and Smith and Laidler battled well.
Despite the disappointment today 2016 has been a great year to support the Swans. I AM gutted though because I think perhaps this was our best opportunity to win a flag for quite a while. But you'd have to have a hard heart to not feel a little bit of respect for the Doggies today for one of the greatest finals campaigns in the history of the game.Comment

What dynasty? Two flags in 11 years is not a dynasty. Its a series of wasted opportunities.
I'm so gutted right now. Worse that 2014. Losing to a team of spuds that finished 7th. What an embarrassment. Dogs will be lucky to make the 8 next year.
Worst. Premiers. Ever. And it came at our expense.
I want to forget today. Forever.Damn that Sorcerer! Twenty gold pieces and I'm wankered on rohypnol!Comment

I see us making a number of changes next year that should improve the team from the one we played today. For example:
In: Aliir, Talia, Reid, Newman and Rose or Davis.
Out: Richards, McGlynn, McVeigh, Mitchell and Laidler.
We also might have AJ coming back and O'Riordan and Dawson look very promising.
I think if we handle our trading right we could end up with 3 picks in the top 25 both this year and next, so we should be able to add some fresh talent to club.
Although the loss today was disappointing, I still feel positive about our future and our ability to stay competitive for some time to come.
I'm not sold on Rose or Davis at this stage having seen them live and as for Newman, let's wait and see how he actually goes at AFL level. I have a feeling we'll try and get a reasonably decent player in (to make Laidler cover perhaps) and I think McVeigh will struggle to hold his spot for the full year even though he was OK today.
I was bitterly disappointed with the lack of impact Tippett made today, seriously you expect more for $900,000 a year..Comment

I know Curley is a sydney reporter but he saw it the same way as most swans
5. Did the men in green feel the pinch of a tense Grand Final?
As hard as it is for the players, the job of the umpires must be even more difficult on Grand Final day, and there were some puzzling decisions at the MCG. The Bulldogs led the free kick count 12-4 at half time, with more than a couple of head scratchers going their way. The third term ramped up the pressure on the players and the Dogs were given another two or three questionable decisions, with a 50-metre penalty against Jeremy Laidler, and a high shot on Clay Smith among them. The Swans didn't land a free kick at all in the third quarter, and co-captain Jarrad McVeigh certainly made his feelings known to the whistleblowers. The below the knees rule also seemed to be abandoned with Tom Papley and Dan Hannebery both brought down by Dale Morris and Easton Wood with no whistle.

Injury to Buddy certainly caused a change to the game and a restructure to the forward line which didn't work.

Bloody oath I am, they weren't great but to suggest they cost us a premiership is pretty immature in my opinion. If it was under 10 points then I might be inclined to agree it was a factor.
We simply had too many passengers today.
Not that I expect much rationality here right now and rightly so.....Comment

Name one other AFL captain who would be happy to have performed like McVeigh today? He was S#!T. He shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as KJ and how he can be Captain ahead of JPK is just unfathomable.Comment
