The AFL average wage is $265,00. Why would a player who a regular senior player be on only $100,000 ? Surely he would have been offered at least $250,00 per year.
What did XR do?

Would be very surprised if this was true. I hope we get an interview from X at some stage so we can all stop speculatingComment

Even so I think most players - not to mention a great many would-be players - would be very happy to be on that sort of money and do what they have to.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. Some of these guys really bust a gut for the pay they get. Understandable they don't walk in to a Lance/Kurt salary, but the gap can be quite remarkable considering that they have to put in the same hours/effort.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

There are rumours that something happened after the GF that caused angst amongst the club. No idea what is was but I've seen the quote "Xavier took the loss very badly". Maybe that's code for something else. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

It seems to be a pretty common theme for Xavier's generation. I've got a lot of mates who work for the Big 4 Accounting firms and the graduates come in day 1 expecting to be running the show and refusing to do any of the so called menial work while they earn their stripes. Most of them don't last longer than 2 yearsComment

Of course, its called serving your apprenticeship. It doesn't matter whether you're a merchant banker, plumber or AFL footballer. You start at the bottom rung and work your way to the top, it doesn't just get handed to you on a platter just for showing up.

How about watching McGlynn and Tippett amble about knowing they are going home afterwards with their pockets full of dosh for doing SFA in a grand final no less. Momma, I'm comming home."Play like you can’t lose."Comment

Tough to keep going when you are on basic money and teammate Kurt 'The Log' Tippett is getting overs for achieving far less. XR played in his brother's shadow and couldn't do more. Same as Brandon Jack. In life there are times when you have to cut bait and move on.

What did XR do?
Yes McGlynn gave us his all throughout his time in Sydney. Tippett and Reid owe us big seasons given the contract they both are on.
I tend to think that the wage disparity between our top 6-8 and the rest can easily create some jealousy if not handled well. X saw his housemate Mitchell leave Sydney for much more money than available in Sydney. If his salary was as low as some suggest then there is an argument that it might not be worth all of the sacrifice and hard work. One day he might answer some of these questions for us in an interview. In the mean time good luck to him.
