Why dont we put our first round pick on the table for Stringer? I think he is exactly what we need and i dont buy into that offfield crap. He kicks goals and is a beast in the middle. I know he wants to stay in Melbourne but he may change his mind with a little convincing. .. oh we can also throw Towers in as a sweetener.

Probably because he wants to remain in Melbourne to be near his kids.

Maybe we can package him up with Kurt Tippett?

You don't find it at all interesting that not one Bulldogs player has come out and said they would love to see him stay at the club? There are a number of off field behaviours that would drive a wedge between him and his teammates.
I have been saying all along that we should not go near him. He is a good player but we don't need his sort. It looks like most clubs have heard this as well.

Or Adelaide, who've lost Lever and probably Cameron, and haven't brought anyone in.

Or Geelong, who've lost Motlop, may lose Lang and Menzel, and have lost Lonergan and Mackie to retirement, while their only 'in' looks like being a bloke whose barely played in two seasons and is 33. He may be brilliant for them, or he may spend more time in rehab than out on the field.

Or Richmond, who've been as quiet as we have thus far.

Only Port and Essendon have really splashed out with any results so far. It's hard to know what impact Port's acquisitions will have because I couldn't really make them out in 2017. The gap between their best (beating up on weaker teams) and their worst (rarely being competitive against the better sides - I'm going to ignore their victory against us in r1 given we weren't a "better team" at that point in the season). I think they'll improve, especially with the addition of Rockliff, but they've lost Trengove and Impey who were both pretty decent players.

Essendon have only managed to get one of their mooted trades done thus far. I think they'll complete the Saad trade but it's hard to see how they'll jag Stringer. Even if they do, they've not really addressed their putrid onball division and have lost Watson to retirement.

The reality is, very few teams have done much so far this trade period, and while a few surprises may fall out towards the end of the season, I suspect most clubs will land up not being that active. There aren't really many prized targets on the market. All those garnering the headlines have question marks over them. I think Saad is the most attractive of all players moving, and I'd loved it if we'd been in the market. But we never were, given his move is driven by a desire to be closer to his family in Melbourne. And he's probably going to a club that is already reasonably well served in the position he plays yet has glaring weaknesses elsewhere.
GWS is about the only club who can afford to get organic growth as they have so many under 26.

Richmond made their big trade play last year.

Geelong are up there because of danger.

              Etc, etc.

Before delistings, retirements, etc., this year, GWS had 30 players under 26 yo and we had 33.

And now they've lost Smith and will almost certainly lose Kennedy and Wilson. Who knows whether they'll be able to hang onto all of Taranto, Setterfield and Perryman when they come out of contract. There's a limit to how many good young players they can lose and still retain their status as the "most talented list on paper".

For those complaining about the Swans' lack of trading, who exactly do you think should be traded in? What position do we need to improve in that can be achieved via players available in this years' meat market?

Agree Liz, there's no point in trading just for the sake of it. As I've said previously, if we're not trading in a clear best 22 player, best to trust in the draft and for 2018 trust in organic growth.

The 2017 list could/should have got us to a flag and there's plenty of upside in younger players. Pies targeting a Swans rookie shows we've got attractive depth. I don't see any other contenders massively upgrading their lists, a lot of activity but only marginal upgrading. Let's reassess at 2pm Thursday.

Looks like we're not giving up Murray without a fight.

Nice one Tom, means we probably see a future with us for Murray but for him it may be Pies are indicating definite senior game time. Glad we are not just giving him away which, because of lack of senior opportunities, we did with Membrey (for nothing), Lamb (nothing) & Biggs (2 or 3 pick upgrade).

It's intriguing how many picks we'll take into this draft, definitely got to take three (14, 33, 51) at this stage of trading, due to minus BJ, Talia, Leonardis, Laidler plus Melican.

Good stuff. Hope we keep him.

What a dud of a trade period. Misfits, malcontents and underachievers. The poor journos trying to makes something interesting out of it all.

Now we get into the Mummy's Boys trading period.

I'm glad at least a few AFL commentators have been critical of this phony 'go home' factor excuse. If you ask to 'go home' you should be banned from AFL footy for life. Get a different job.

                                This is an interesting development:

?Sydney holds No.14 and would deal that selection to the Dogs if it was able to secure an extra 2018 first-round selection in addition to either 25 or 30.?
