If Worner had any integrity (and the answer to that is already clear) he would quietly resign from the Swans board to protect the Swans from embarrassment.

The issue is not that he had an affair. That in itself is a personal matter for him and his family. (And probably a very painful matter for his family.)

The issue is his lack of moral integrity and his extremely poor judgement in having an affair with a subordinate officer in the organisation in which he is a very senior executive. Those two failings are the reason I regard him as an inappropriate person to be on the Swans board.

Putting my cynical hat on and discarding the moral posturing, would the ordinary club supporter give 2 hoots about Worner being on the Board. Would they give up their membership or support of the club and players? I certainly wont and unless his appointment affects the players or has a direct consequence to the day to day running of the club I then let the club President and other directors do as they see fit. Before other supporters pass judgement on me, I state that I do not condone what Worner has done, and as I have no vested interest in Channel 7 I think that this is personal matter that should be resolved by those who are directly affected. At the end of the day there are far more important things to worry about than someone infidelity, poor judgement and retribution.

Unless there is some sort of criminal activity (there isn't), there's nothing in it and its of no relevance to his position at the swans

The relevance is Worner has demonstrated he has very poor judgement on a matter directly related to his work responsibilities. That (in my view) makes him a poor choice to be a member of the Swans board. Personally I would like to feel I could trust the judgement and the ethics of those who make important decisions on behalf of the club.

But I am not suggesting any Swans supporter will, or should, resign their membership or revoke their support of the Swans over this issue.

Any thoughts on why Worner was appointed to the board in the first place?

Media knowhow seemed to be the attraction. This is what Andrew Pridham said in December 2015:

?Hailing from Perth, Tim is a lifelong AFL supporter and is a dedicated member of the Sydney Swans,? Andrew Pridham said.

?We believe that Tim?s skills and experience, coupled with his passion for the code and the Swans, make him an ideal person to join our Board.

?Tim?s expertise in media will greatly assist the Club, particularly at a time of great change in the media landscape,? he said.

Maybe someone should go tomorrow and ask .
Personally, I think this is not a good look for the Swans.
The reason he is on the board is obvious. Ch7 and the usual suck up to ' those who matter'.

There are many people calling for Worner to step down on idealistic grounds.

Pragmatically Worner is going to stay on the Swans board. Here are the pragmatic reasons that those with idealistic views may not have considered:

                        1) Worner is the CEO of 7 West Media who are part of the amazing 2.2 Billion rights deal that the AFL recently signed. If Worner is forced to step by the Swans it will cause tension at AFL house and lead to difficulties in the relationship with the AFLs broadcast partner. The AFL won't let this happen.

                        2) Worner has the full backing of Kerry Stokes. Forcing Warner to step down would mean upsetting Kerry Stokes. It is full hardy to upset Mr Stokes and Pridham won't do that.

These are the pragmatic reasons why Worner is there to stay.

This whole issue of Worner highlights the only thing I really really hate about our club. And I hate it with a passion

Do you think there is any way this creep would be a director if we, as members, elected our directors like grown ups the way other clubs do?

                              No way he would.

Our club is a benign dictatorship, the consummate boys clubs.

As fans and MEMBERS we are patronisingly given, what 1 or 2 directors we can elect directly but what about the other 10? We are made to feel important but we have no power.

My understanding is that essentially our club is the ultimate closed shop at board level, that directors are by-and-large elected by directors and so the story goes.

Which is all well and good when things are going well as they have over the last 20 years but what would happen if we were in disarray like Brisbane? Because they were able to elect a new Board/Chairman and I don't think as fans we can. There is only one time this threatened to spill over and that was when we all arced up about Wallace being signed up when we demanded Roos. So the Old Boys passed the hat around and made the problem go away rather than have their cosy little club disrupted.

I find it staggering, absolutely staggering, that we have a Board with such corporate experience that can sit on a Board with such an appalling governance model. Then again they are the beneficiaries of the system in question.

Can anyone explain how we actually run our club at the top level? Maybe Jenny from the club, who I know lurks here, can shed some light here.

To be fair, when Worner was appointed he did not have any of the recent trouble publicly hanging over his head. No one raised any concerns at the time of Worners appointment. It's only since the Amber Harrison story has publicly come to light that people are questioning Worners role on the Swans board.

I believe also that the Stokes family is also close to incoming commission chairman Richard Goyder.

All Swans people should be enthused by the appointment of San Mostyn to the board. She is a legend in the corporate and sporting boardrooms of Australia. She will make an outstanding contribution to the Swans board.
