FWIW - I think the Swans Board has no questions to answer in recent years but I also think Worner's recent brush with misadventure stamps him as a "dickhead" and would prefer him gone.

He was appointed to the Board due to his management skills and experience. He should be judged on his contribution which, to the outside world and based on on-field and off-field success of the Swans during his tenure, has been excellent.

Personally, I would keep Worner and dump Kurt Tippett. At least we know Worner doesn't have time to have sex with himself.

There was only ever going to be one team from Sydney in the start-up eight-team league. And. for that reason it was always going to be GWS.

Arguably that was the right decision. However, it could be said that a red and white women's team would have come with one million plus supporters up-front as opposed to GWS's crickets.

That supporter base (or lack of) must have come into AFL HQ's risk management plan but I would suggest that our Board got the word that we wouldn't get a licence first time around so they are keeping their powder dry for expansion opportunities.

We didn't apply. No facilities for women. A Swans ladies team won't happen until there is facilities for them. If we had applied we would have got a provisional license like 5 other clubs. The Melbourne sides who missed out are all entering teams in the Ladies VFL and running academies so we will be a long way behind if it eventually happens.

We do have a tie with the Super Netball league, which will provide us with more exposure (no pun intended)to an already large and growing base.

So I think that was a good trade for off not having an AFLW team.

That can come later, the pool of talent will grow as the competition itself has becomes more mature.

Good call by Swans. The Womens AFL is still an experiement, and might work (jury still out) in Melbourne, but is extremely risky in Sydney.

The terminology is interesting. AFLW for the women's league because someone else has WAFL. Mind you, given some of the decisions they've made I wouldn't have been surprised if they'd set up the Australian Womens Football League.

For a new club, this makes perfect sense. There's no way anyone in Melbourne will follow the Collingwood netball team other than already rusted on footy fans but it's a different situation with the Giants and the chance to build a following across two sports and both men's and women's footy simultaneously makes a hell of a lot of sense, especially when they're nominally based in an area that has been neglected by media and corporates for so long.

I agree, I think the Giants have grabbed the opportunities presented by the new AFLW and Super Netball competitions very cleverly. Along with what is now an ominous men's AFL line-up, plus very attractive training facilities for both men and women at Homebush, they are positioned to build a strong and appealing sporting brand.

While I understand why the Swans did not bid for a women's football licence, I am a little nervous that they might have been left somewhat flat-footed by these new ventures.

GWS doubled their membership in one year, admittedly from a low base, but the new members are not rusted on AFL followers, they are new followers. A premiership or two in the AFL and moderate success with the women's teams will see memberships continue to grow quickly. The AFL may well have created a monster and we have reason to be worried. In a few years we may well be the poor relation, especially if we slide.

I wonder if the Swans will strengthen their partnership with the Sydney Swifts netball team in this new environment. Or at least make it more visible. Mind you, the Giants (and Collingwood) have already raided some of the Swifts' top netballers.
