Calm yourselves, this is the youngest Swans team for over a decade. Last year we may have over achieved with a young side and its got even younger and less experienced this year. Maybe this year we will slip a bit, it looked likely to happen as soon as we brought a heavy injury list into the season on top of a list lacking depth, but plenty of promise.

Look at the positives - we have drafted two players in Florent & Hayward who look to be top shelf to add to an already impressive roster of young players, these are 250+ gamers of high quality, they truly look like special players. Newman looks like he will be best 22, has footy smarts and is cool headed. That's three players straight into our best 22.

So if we can get the injured back on the park, Florent, Hayward and Newman will be in the side in place of muggles like Cunningham, Towers etc. This is exciting despite the losses. So temper your frustration and enjoy the new players.

I agree about the hope the youngsters bring, but we were only a couple of points down with 10 minutes to go in the grand final last year, and we are now staring down the barrel of a 0-5 start to the season. I certainly felt we overachieved last year with a young squad -> despite all the crap the media would of come up with, a Premiership with that amount of inexperience in the team would of been an absolutely astounding achievement.

But we have regressed badly so far. Some of it is down to players missing, some of it down to 2nd year blues (Mills for instance), some of it down to inexperienced replacements. But there are also areas of real concern - our work in the middle has been mixed at best this year (did improve in the last 3 quarters tonight - but no one can doubt we are missing Mitchell badly), our defence is leaking badly (when did we adopt a tactic of playing behind the man at every opportunity!), and our forward structure continues to not be there.

I certainly think in time, our bottom 6 from GF 2016 should be substantially upgraded once we've got everyone back - but it looks like it may be a bumpy road for season 2017. The future looks damn bright though - there is a new nucleus of young swans coming through (young in terms of experience for some, age for others), that all look like making it as very good AFL players. It bodes well for really pushing hard for the flag over the next few years, before father time catches up with a few of the older brigade.

On the up side Hayward 2nd game 3 goals fox 2nd game and 1 goal Florent 3rd game 1 goal and looks like a good reliable kick for goal from this week and last week Newman 2nd game 23 touches and 1 goal.

Lacking in breaks from congestion. Can't blame the inexperienced players. It comes back to the coal face n you have your experienced guys for that. Tonight showed how good a firing Tippet can mean to a side. As much as he's payed overs if he stays on the park n in form he's important.

I think he is nowhere near good enough Southern Swan, don't think I was defending him with that comment. I guess what I was trying to say is its not through lack of effort. I was disappointed we didn't pick Cameron tonight - I know Sinclair is probably the better ruck of the two at the moment, but Cameron appears to have very decent hands, and clearly does know where the sticks are when resting forward.

Bit unfair on JPK......I think he set a fine example. The rest though, you may have a point.

I was talking about the 1st qtr when we were under fire. JPK is fine at leading by example but we seem to lack the sort of on field leadership that says right. we are under seige here let go man on man for 5 mins and arrest this @@@@. Coaches get blamed but surely they knew what was happening out there at the time.

Pathetic!! 70 more uncontested disposals. They ran hard to stop our passes, we were 1 -2 meters behind. Couple of shocking decisions again. why us everYtime? Jomes did not play on and as Wayne carey said " if that's play on, then nearly every mark taken is play on". Hannebury had his hands on the ball and Pendlebury kicked it out of his hands, but it was deemed too low. Should have been kicking in danger. Dawson, foote, Sinclair not up to it. Can someone tell me why with a minute to go and Firoent had that shot, there was 3 Collingwood to one Swans, when a point would have given us a draw??? Well wooden spooners this year. Season over!

Been a very average start to the season but if we look to the positives and ahead. These first games will be the makings of the youngsters. If we can get to even keel by round 16 with a full squad we will do damage in the finals no matter where we finish. All bodes well for 2018 and onwards

Florent and Hayward keep showing flashes, but I feel they probably are really holding players at this stage until others return. Hayward knows how to pop up for a goal or 3 though - I really like both he and Florent, they will be very, very fine players I feel.

Fox has really surprised me so far - there is something about him, haven't quite worked out what yet - he can make it.

Newman was very good tonight.

Out of the debutants/really inexperienced this year, when everyone is back, I feel that Newman looks most likely to keep his place across the season.

Gee the disposal efficiency stats are a real worry for us this season - another week with so many at sub 70% - it is really hurting us badly.
