That article is about one game. It might be a matter of consistency, I'm not sure, but there are other articles on their website that indicate their forward-line pressure is very good. I can't find the team stats that ranks them just in the forward half, but I doubt that they are near the bottom. The lack of inside 50s might suggest that it is their midfield strength that is holding them back, rather than their pressure in the forward line.

Take it for what you will (and I normally discard information from this source) but David King talked On The Couch, either this week or last, about how Essendon were ranked amongst the lowest of the contenders for forward pressure, and still rely a lot of rebound from defence.

High inside 50 numbers generally arise where teams get repeat inside 50 entries- ie as soon as it comes out, it goes straight back in. So a low inside 50 count is consistent with an observation that a team isn't great at forward pressure.

I agree with that. While the Bombers were guilty of losing the unlosable from the position they found themselves in with three minutes to play, the Swans were the better side for the first three quarters in all aspects other than efficiency in front of goal. '

The ability to turn pressure and territory into scores (and especially goals) has been something of a weakness ever since the revival began. It's an aspect of the game that leaves the team vulnerable, especially against the better sides. Here's hoping that Geelong have kick started the Swans' conversion back into gear, and that for the rest of the season we can continue to pile on goals while we're on top

Oh yeah indeed.....then after that I watched highlights of the following......'05 GF closing minutes (twice, with different commentaries), '05 QF v Geelong (Nick Davis!!!), '12 QF v Adelaide, '12 GF (twice!), a '12 game where we thrashed the Eagles (Jetta 4 goals) and then highlights of last weeks game v Geelong. That's the trouble with Youtube.....one thing leads to another then another!

So good to watch it again. The two friends with me had left with five minutes to go. I stayed and got one of the best finishes since 2005.

BT's bewildered 'How did they do that?' that you can hear in the background breaks me up every time I watch this. Plus the 'he/I can't believe it' x 3. Oh that was a wonderful night!

Or is very efficient in scoring.

It's turned into a useless stat, particularly for the Swans who concede a huge number due to the way they defend, but because of the way they attack from the defense scoring is efficient.

In the Cats game the I50 stat was equal, but the Swans dominated at both ends.

The Dogs took risks, played on with lightning speed, the ball bounced their way repeatedly , we hesitated momentarily not often but enough.

McGlynn missed that set shot .

Hard to watch but in those final mins the Dogs were better.

Thanks Thunder! Watching this again, I really don't think Newman was given the credit he deserved for kicking his goal. He beat Daniher in the aerial contest to make sure the kick wasn't rushed behind and then kept his cool when it hit the ground to get us back within a kick.

It's a real highlight of the year. I love how everything falls into place: Buddy's point (otherwise back to the middle and they draw), the smother, Rohan on the line.

I was there with a friend who I'd taken to 3 games previous, all losses. First game I can remember in ages where the adrenaline left me shaking at the end.

Anyway, back to finals: looking good! I was prepared for the worst after the Hawks: couple more losses, injuries and a few other unexpected results really could have had us at the very edge of the 8. Now it feels like we are contenders.

Also huge credit to the tackle by Rohan on ? (Essendon player) that led to the ball coming out to Kennedy who kicked into the goal square for that play by Newman. You can see Rohan hovering, calmly waiting for the Essendon player to take possession, and then the care he took in the tackle to ensure he didn't transgress. Very impressive.

In fact the calmness of every Swans player who had a role in those last two minutes was astounding. A lot of lessons learnt after failing in that situation in the past I think.
