Yes, genuinely looking forward to reading his book, when I get the time in a month or so. I'm sure it will contain a lot of interesting stuff about how to encourage cooperation and build motivation.Went to a Q&A session with Paul Roos on Monday night. Karen Lyon was the interviewer and she was very good as Roosy was spruiking his new book. When asked about the flag, he said Adelaide and Sydney were the best teams with the swans best football better than anyone else. He said if Sydney bring their best, they would beat Geelong 9 times out of 10 but that Geelong could still win if the Swans were below par. Interestingly, he said he hoped Richmond wins because it would be good for the game. It was in Melbourne so perhaps he was playing to the crowd. He really is an entertaining speaker and can literally talk under water. It went for over an hour but he could have gone on indefinitely without being boring. The effort he put in to change the Swans culture should always be honoured as it is as strong today as when he was a major player in setting it up.Comment

Hi top40, that also my nightmare. I have this vision of the Swans working their backsides off to beat Geelong and Adelaide and then Gil M saying at a Monday evening press conference. " It is with pleasure that I announce the umpires for the Richmond v Sydney grand final (With a stupid cheesy grin) will be mister Stevic, Merdith and blah blah" a reward for their outstanding effort in last's year GF. When that happens we might as well spend the Saturday sun baking at Bondi beach (players included).

That's one reason why I wanted to play Richmond this weekend, not a fortnight later. Can't face being "fairytaled" again!Hi top40, that also my nightmare. While I agree we were reamed by the umpires last year, I think we had our chances to overcome their input but couldn't get up in the last seven minutes.
The Doggies finished better.
We are in a much better position this year in terms of form, selections and health of list.
Can we just get past Geelong (and then Adelaide) first?
I won't be surprised if there is a bit of stage-fright from Tiges in prelim too. It's potentially another classic Richmond fail.Comment

While I understand everyone's apprehension in regards to umpiring in grand finals I actually think the AFL won't want a repeat of last year. If it happens once it can be explained away very easily but a second time in a row would have the media, everywhere except Melbourne, and the public asking very very difficult questions. I don't think they'd risk it. Now when it comes to Richmonds prelim.....well that's a different story all together????Hi top40, that also my nightmare. Disagree, I think that the footy world would not care cos they want the Richmond fairy tale as they wanted the Dogs fairy tale last year. While I understand everyone's apprehension in regards to umpiring in grand finals I actually think the AFL won't want a repeat of last year. No the Melbourne media and Richmond supporters wouldn't care. There are a lot of supporters in Melbourne that dislike Richmond with a passion. It's not the hard done by dogs supporters. It's the feral Richmond supporters who are a bunch of inbred crack pots. And the media outlets outside of Melbourne will have a big story to sell. It wouldn't go away quietly. And then you have people like me who are fed up with how the game is run who would walk away from the national game if the grand final was influenced by umpiring again. I'm done with the national game if it happens again.Comment

I hear you and agree with you but I would say get ready to walk cos AFL will do everything to get Richmond a GF win. Just imagine the $ they would make on all the merchandise would far outweigh what the made on Dogs and that was millions. No the Melbourne media and Richmond supporters wouldn't care. I would like nothing better than to start turning around our poor record in Grand Finals. 17 Grand Finals for only five wins (29%) is a worse record than Collingwood (37%). Only St Kilda (14%) and Fremantle (0%) have worse records out of sides that have played in Grand Finals.
Our special "talents": losing Grand Finals after finishing on top of the ladder (seven times out of nine), and playing in Grand Finals decided by six points or fewer (seven games, for three wins [2005 by 4, 1918 by 5, 1909 by 2] and four losses [2006 by 1, 1914 by 6, 1907 by 5 and 1899 by 1])."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Boddo, I hope you are 100 % right. It just when they AFL mention that Stevic and Meredith will be the GF umpires, I know I wont enjoy watching the GF. I will be thinking about that famous you tube clip. While I understand everyone's apprehension in regards to umpiring in grand finals I actually think the AFL won't want a repeat of last year. I don't think it'll happen but if it does I'll quote my post say my thank you all for having me here n walk away. I have stated on here a number of times I used to be in the fight game n if it happens it's lowering itself to that level of corruption. I love the club but I'm no fool. I'll cancel my Foxtel, AFL app n all the other things I subscribe to n follow my local footy side. Fool me once shame on you n fool me twice shame on me.

I just don't think it'll happen. The blowback would be huge.Comment

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
