Does anyone have any idea if we make it to the prelim what day and time it would be on? I know there a number of combinations of possibilities for that weekend but have absolutely no idea how they work out game times.
Someone is trying to take me fishing, I'd hate to be on a boat if we are playing gws in Sydney.Comment

considering his injury history you might be stretching things a bit here......

Just thinking about it - 2 prelim games and we know the following week the game is on the Saturday so there's no way they would one on a Sunday would they? And give a team a 6 day break?Comment

It'll depend on who is playing. They usually schedule the team that finished higher on the ladder on the Friday to give them the extra half day's break. The one exception I can think of was us in 2012 when ANZ was being occupied for something else on the Saturday so we played on the Friday instead of the higher ranked Hawks.
In your post Bill Posters you were worried about missing an all Sydney PF. That would require GWS to beat Adelaide on Thursday, and if they do so they would be the lower ranked (4th) of the two preliminary hosts with the other prelim being either Geelong (2nd) or Richmond (3rd). So if this theory is correct, a GWS-Sydney PF would be on the Saturday.Comment

Once the winners of the first week of the finals are known, all other possible finals matchups are limited to just a few possibilities. Each preliminary final has only two combinations, determined entirely by whichever team wins the corresponding semi final, and the Grand Final has only nine possible combinations. Teams in each qualifying final cannot meet again until the Grand Final.
All that is needed for a Sydney derby preliminary final are GWS beating Adelaide and Sydney winning two finals."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Here is my tip for the first two weeks going on a combination of form, traditional dominance & home ground advantage...
Week 1
Adelaide d GWS (AO)
Port d WCE (AO)
Swans d Essendon (SCG)
Geelong d Richmond (MCG)
Week 2
GWS d Port (Spotless)
Swans d Richmond (MCG)
so prelims will be
Adelaide v Swans (AO)
Geelong v GWS (MCG)Comment

Higher and lower ranking doesn't matter.

A fair point, though it's not a firm rule. There's another factor that determines the scheduling - the teams themselves have some choice over the scheduling, with the minor premier getting the first choice in the first week."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment
