Based on the pattern of the last 6 years we should have realised we were never going to make the Grand Final in an odd year.

The AFL have said they will wait for a generation.

The giants may be up, they may go down, if things go bad they may even merge with someone, but there will always be a team in western Sydney. The AFL isn't a serious national comp without them. It isn't a serious comp without the swans either and that has saved us through some perilous times.

It's also a boon for the swans as they concentrate on a smaller market within Sydney. The job is too big for one team.

People are in a panic about the final crowd, but it was less than the same H&A fixture, so was the H&A fixture suddenly good?.
Neither, it's the same problem we've always had. The AFL run finals, and they have no understanding of the Sydney market.
Breakfast Point (where they live) and the RAS Showgrounds (where they train and play) are NOT in "western Sydney".
You would do well to remember that when arguing a point that the AFL want (need) a team in Western Sydney.
The "Western Sydney" that you and the AFL dream about, is a lot further than 12ks from the GPO.
They aren't tapping into the "western Sydney" market at all, just the inner-west.

Aside from that, footy is over for the year.
I couldn't give a toss who wins or loses.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

I wouldn't get too hung up on names. By that logic "Sydney" Swans and the "Greater Western Sydney" Giants actually share western Sydney.
        The Giants also represent Canberra.
A more geographically correct name might be "All NSW and ACT west of Anzac bridge" Giants, but it doesn't have the same ring to it.

As much as we already beat them in Adelaide I can't see that we would have beaten the crows if we made it through.

            They are on fire.

If only Geelong had played like this last week. Teams seems to rev themselves up for matches against us.

Scott had his whole reputation on line against us. Mental side is huge in every game, especially finals. If Scott loses tonight, he has a 30 per cent record from his last 10 finals.

It's also possible that the Crows are better than us.

They are bashing up Geelong especially Danger. Betts and Cameron playing like Sam Kerr .

You are right, that is possible (and incredibly hard to prove or refute).

Close season, though. Four teams left and we beat them all during the regular season. Any dog on its day had the opportunity to be successful this year - with the opposite equally true also.

Balmain of the inner west? Or some other Balmain?

If anyone thinks Balmain is classed as western Sydney and part of the target for Gws they need a hat with flaps on it.

Yeah not to be snooty but I live 15 mins from their home ground and if your calling in Western Sydney then my house is way over valued (which it is anyway living in Sydney). At best its the North West and really at about 30 mins from the SCG way too close to being doing anything but turning Swans fans from Parramatta westwards into Giants fans. They aren't growing the game they are cannibalizing Swans fans for the most part.

What did happen to their Blacktown facility, is it sitting gathering dust whilst the poor rate payers of Blacktown lament the wasted money.

The best thing the AFL could do would be to go back to 16 teams, offer the players more money for a 30 game season (no practice matches so its only an extra 4 games). Allow a bigger playing list. I'm sure the players would oppose it but I suspect the additional $$$ you could add from axing the Suns and Giants would easily cover it.

And hey presto we finally have an honest and true competition. Who isn't tired of the horribly compromised and biased draw?

Even if they win the premiership this year the wagon jumpers will be off as soon as they hit a bad patch.

I agree about the 16 teams but I'd drop the Suns and North. I think GWS is needed even if they dont have supporters currently. Having two rival teams in Sydney has created more of an AFL atmosphere. I've noticed more recently a lot of my friends and colleagues expressing interest in the AFL

The excitement out here in the heart of Western Sydney is palpable. The smell of fried chillies brings tears to my eyes. There is a sea of orange everywhere you look.

                                Chiang Rai orange fans.jpg

They really loved Thomas Bugg so much around here that they even named their soccer team after him. They were heartbroken when he was traded.

I think the team song goes something like: We are the Greater Western Sydney Beetles. We're a big fat ugly pest.
