If we meet them or GWS in the finals it will be an exit.

We did look ordinary from half way through second quarter but we had a lot of blokes down. They kicked poorly but we still got up. Sides loke Crows and Giants can have poor days as well. Need Naismith back to get first hands on it. At this stage I would probably play Sinclair ahead of Tippett because he gives more effort over four quarters.

Winning the game means less than what we learned from the game. The main points I take from it are that Towers, Hayward and Sinclair are not suitable for finals football. Newman and Aliir are the 2 obvious inclusions, but I'm not sure about the 3rd. Maybe Cunningham will be ready.
Aliir is NOT an obvious inclusion to replace Sinclair.

Horse was asked about the home-side umpiring. His reply: "I'm not allowed to talk about it so I'm not going to talk about it".

AA hasn't been performing well enough in the Magoos to kick someone else out of the team. I don't know why people keep mentioning him. He was great last year but he's a different player now. It's as simple as that. P.S. That doesn't necessarily mean that I'm a fan of Sinclair or Tippett.

AFL know their umpires are bias creeps towards Victorian teams and that is how they want to keep it. [emoji48]

I think that's called "finding a way to win". Terrific and some great moments. Rohan's long goal, Papley and of course Franklin turning back the clock.

One thing I like a lot this year is that you can see there's a plan for the closing minutes of close games and they try to stick to it, without panic. You always believe they can win if they just execute calmly.

No idea why Jones was reported. Most of the frees I saw were there, on both sides. We should try to dwell less on the counts. They're a crude measure and not very predictive of anything important (i.e. the result).

Miraculous win. Exhausting just to watch it.
Buddy's magical running goal, not close, but though the middle and the way he extends like a racehorse to outrun his chaser is astonishing.
Papley's nailing that running goal, not close but right through the middle.
We beat the best team on their home ground with that lopsided free kick count.
Will be talked about for a long time.
Have to rattle the tin again to attend the finals, and rob a bank if we make the big dance.

You can't tackle or go over the mark until the umpire calls play on. These commentators seem to forget this. Yes Mills did play on but the umpire hadn't called it yet so it is a clear 50 metre penalty. It has happened to us a number of times over the years.

And why don't they highlight all the soft frees and non frees that cost us goals??

It was a fantastic win by us but they are only going to concentrate on that 50 because it happened at the end of the game.

Based on what Longmire said in the press conference it looks like after the Hardwick comments the coaches were told not to discuss umpiring.

My frustration was not so much the calls for many of the frees actually given, but the huge number of identical incidents not given - it should of been about 30 frees each. Just like that day last year, the free kick count was hugely out of whack with the contest being played.

What a fantastic team! Love following them!

Papley is an absolute champ. How good is Rampe too. Thought Tippett looked best in the ruck.

Haywood and Towers are the ones to make way for Cunningham and Newman.

The use of Newman, Lloyd, Jones & Macca to all run from the flanks and then through the mids has proved very hard for opposition teams to stop. The fact they all deliver pretty well makes it even more dangerous. I wonder just what the make up of a finals team would be. So far Harry is nowhere near ready. does towers come out? Id Hayward ready for the rough and tumble of an AFL finals campaign?

Horse looked exhausted in the presser and clearly beyond annoyed by the umpiring not for the first time this year.

Sloane alone was given 8 free kick we got a total of 14. Honestly people called Horse a winger and a sook when he said umpires need to be full time but this seriously needs to happen this was a shocking game.
