I didn't get to watch any of the game thankfully (trekking around Copenhagen on our final day here on our trip) but it sounds like for every bit as good as we were last week, we were terrible tonight. Ultimately, the bad first 6 weeks has caught up with us as we had no room to have a 'bad one' come the pointy end of the season. Very proud of what we achieved in the end in our season, but a shame to go out like this.

All that work to come back comes to naught. Nothing really to be proud of with that sort of performance. Yes, we played some good footy to rescue the season from total disaster - but they will really be knocked around by the game tonight. I think there'll be some serious fallout resulting - lots of finger pointing and blaming the coach. But a game where every player bar 1 lost miserably - in a final (again) is not a good look.

What was that! Worst game since 1994. Hard to comprehend. Some serious weaknesses exposed. Some very, very dumb footy. Completely out played. Did they all have the flu.

I had the same thought. Was there a bug going around? Looked listless from start to finish. Maybe the AFL may some threat to them? Not so crazy.

Such a strange and bizarre turnaround from last week. Against the Bombers, almost everything stuck; tonight, almost nothing. Geelong seemed to be playing in dry conditions, we seemed to be playing in the wet. Though a more accurate description would be, last week we were in the zone mentally. This week, Geelong were in the zone, and probably from about halfway through the first quarter, they were believing that it was their night. Whereas, we started not quite right, fumbled the slippery ball, got disconcerted by a few charity goals and then it seemed that we were never anywhere near the zone. A few times during the night, I was thinking that with a couple of settling goals, we could have built a bit of momentum and started pushing the Cats. But instead, we missed targets, dropped marks, had the ball on the ground elude us and didn't convert the chances that we did have. All of which kept Geelong thinking that it was their night. While we slipped further into a state of under-performing anxiety.
Anyway, I don't want to start bagging players (or the coaches), because I do think that everyone put in an effort, but sometimes that isn't enough. Sometimes effort just has you chasing your own tails. But hey, we did set history, by making the finals from 0/6, and we obviously have a list that is talented and deep enough to be genuine premiership threats next year. And we should start next season fresh and firing.

Strong-willed lad, Hanners. Sound game by him. Good interview on 7 just now. Conceded mindset not where it needed to be and 'too many blokes jumped out of the boat'.

I reckon we were surprised by Dangerfield playing forward. If we saw it coming, we pick Melican, who's actually a decent matchup for him. Kennedy didn't see the tag coming. Second tier mids underperformed. Buddy dreadful, unfortunately. Near career-worst games by Rampe, Rohan and Reid, who fumbled all night. I'm not sure what we expected from Cunningham, who played team-low minutes. Sinkers lumbered about on a big ground before a beaten midfield.

Seemed to leave ourselves exposed all over the place. Why move away from what worked? I.e. key backs Grundy/Rampe/Melican, key forwards Buddy/Reid/Rohan.

It'd be great to see Hayward, Florent, Dawson, Aliir brought on next year.

Intensity just not there tonight.

Dangerfield got some rubbish frees but no doubt he blew the game open early. Their forward structure was good - we couldn't keep it inside 50. Anytime we bombed it forward they marked it.

Wet weather was never a good thing for us but hard to explain why our miss were so far off the mark.

Yes I don't think we can win another premiership with Longmire. I'd rather go backwards for a few years to win again. Just getting to finals doesn't cut it.

Towers was excellent. Could have had a few goals if players had kicked it to him when he was free inside 50, but they choose the geelong option instead.

I'm amazed at how accepting people are of an atrocious performance in a big game yet again. If we had lost tonight after a red hot contest I would congratulate Geelong and lament the terrible start to the year. Losing like that is unacceptable, if we don't change something we accept that performances like that are okay, they're not. We should face the same furnace Essendon did last week. Cancel Mad Monday and make em watch each dreadful moment.

Make no mistake.. tonight was lost in the stands. Again we see that we have no plan B,C,D. Since rd 6 we have lost to 1 style of game play, gee what a surprise that a team may look to use that against us, and what did we do to counter. Nothing !!!. How can a team be so poor and under prepared.

Yep, this is how I saw it too. The tactic was clear early on and yet we did nothing. Very disappointing.

Florent and Hayward are both children physically. They both have massive talent. Writing them off at 18 y.o is a little premature.
