Referring to our list of out of contact players - Gotta say apart from Lloyd that is a pretty poor list - we’d barely miss one of them

Agree with Robinson and Marsh needing to go, but I still think Towers is a decent player who we should keep for another year - I don't think he was given enough opportunities this season, given last season I thought his performances certainly had improved upon what he had produced in previous years.Comment

An interesting comparison is the Bryce Gibbs trade last year. Gibbs is 2 years older than Hanners, so 1 year older at the time of trade. Both players wanted to 'go home'. They've been similar players in terms of overall performance and if anything Hanners would have been slightly better, perhaps because of playing for a much better team. The Gibbs trade involved Carlton getting picks 10 and 16 from Adelaide, and there were a bunch of other pick swaps that favoured Adelaide. In the end, the trade would be rated at around a pick 4 (2000 points). If I were Tom Harley, this would be my starting position and part of my arguments in support of asking for pick 4.
It's time for Harley to show that he's a real Ludite, not just a mere Luddite.Last edited by Ludwig; 17 September 2018, 09:15 PM.Comment

If we were looking for a short term cost effective player to add some size and ball winning ability in the midfield then maybe we could look at Michael Barlow.
Listed at 189 cm and statistically compares very well with Josh and Luke.
He has had some bad luck with injuries but he could be a good stop gap if we miss out on a big name mid this year. He was part of the leadership group at the Suns and would provide some experience for our young midfield group and would come pretty cheapComment

I was watching that as well. He also said the McCartin was off the table. It only makes sense that St Kilda would have been thoroughly satisfied about his fitness before getting to the point of making such a big offer to him, something I've pointed out several times in this thread. And we should use this as the basis for the kind of deal we get on the trade. The rumours about the deal involving the Saints' 2nd round pick for 2019 may well be their offer. I would think that the information leaks are coming from the St. Kilda camp, so the rumours are from selected sources. It doesn't mean it won't be for their 2nd round pick, but that doesn't seem close to fair compensation for an elite player under contract, and 800 kpa is an elite player.

I'm skeptical about the reported Collingwood interest. They've got a pretty gun midfield. They only thing I can come up with is Pendlebury is turning 31 in January.Comment

I agree the pressure is on Harley - not wanting to argue against the swans but just between us I don’t think Hanners is anywhere near an 800k player anymore - he is at minimum half cooked and started playing so young that he is probably an early 30s age comparable body and output these days
As for Scully, yes, he'd be great, but remember that he renegotiated his contract downward, taking a voluntary 50% pay cut. So now he's only on $500kpa until 2021. The Giants won't let him go. He's the only good player actually getting paid unders.Last edited by Ludwig; 17 September 2018, 09:27 PM.Comment

His selfish play is also something I have noticed. Remember in the 2017 NEAFL GF he to simply chip the ball over the head of an opposition player and a swans player upfield would have runned into an open goal, which meant we would have won the flag. I am 50/50 on whether to keep him as he does some goods things. Definetly want to persist with Maibaum for another season, shows some good qualities.

Compared to the others, Marsh looks like he gives absolute effort every time. I just don't think he's good enough, unfortunately.Comment
