Also wondering if Tyler Roos is still eligible as a F/S selection. I think he's 22 now, but he looked good in the NEAFL final.

Wasn't sure if that was what SS Bleeder was referring to. That was specific to the U18 championships. I doubt anyone makes that side (let alone a "Division two" player - notwithstanding that they now play against the other teams in a combined side) unless they at least play every game.

I wondered if Twomey had named his own side, based on players' entire seasons, but even then Blakey would have stood no chance given he's hardly played since.

On Roos, I don't know how long FS eligibility lasts. I believe clubs can take U19 players under the rule but don't know if it expires later. But he was never eligible for the Swans under the FS rule - just Brisbane. For a while he was in our academy but left in his final U18 year after his father moved down to Melbourne for some job related reason.

Tyler played in the VFL for two years with the Northern Blues. He split his time between the seniors and reserves, but mostly reserves. Keeping in mind that the Blues were one of the bottom sides in the VFL during his stint there.

Where is that published? Can you provide a link?

AA teams are generally based on that year's performance and if this one is selected on that basis, it's not surprising Blakey doesn't get named. He missed part of the U18 championships with illness and I don't think he's played since with some bone bruising issues.

Callum Mills wouldn't have been named in any U18 sides during his pre-draft season, managing just a couple of games for the year, but that didn't stop him getting drafted at no 3.

I don't think it's on the web, but I'll have a search. It's the team he updates each week on Future Stars on ch9 around midday every Sunday. I'm pretty sure it includes both divisions as it includes Connor McFadyen from Brisbane Academy.

Dunno about Nick Blakey.
He is pretty raw and will need a few years to develop.
Wont help us out in the next 2-3 seasons.
We still need some cavalry.

History shows that the draftees who make the most impact are the midfielders (Oliver, Cripps, Bont) and history is littered with high pick key position players who are either washed up in no time (think Schache, Paddy McCartain, Tom Boyd) or still struggling to make a meaningful week in, week out impact, often because of injury.

You can add Lewis Johnston to that list (pick 12, 2008 draft). I remember at the time there was comment he was a bargain pickup as he was expected to go in the top 10!

I really hope this isn't the case. Not going to find a Hannebery replacement who can play midfield straight up with a 2nd rounder! Especially when the opposition considers Hanners to be a 5 year X $800k worth talent! Honestly, would rather keep Hannebery as every chance he will improve with a full pre season under his belt (hasn't been able to do so last 2 seasons). The salary cap relief is over stated in this case (imo). It required pick upgrade (pick 4) to give us chance of securing a gun midfielder like Shiel or exchange for quality midfielder like Acres or Billings who could excel in our environment. Future 2nd rounder does nothing for our IMMEDIATE needs.

With kennedy aging and it is very difficult to find a big bodied midfielder u would suspect that acres could flourish at the Swans

I can't see the logic in the Saints giving up a younger player in order to get Hannebery. I believe that Hanners will be a great contributor for them for the next few years and will be a great leader but he won't be around when they are vying for a premiership. Giving up a young player with potential, like Acres, makes no sense unless they are going to lose Acres regardless.

Harley has just about been acting CEO. Head of Football is probably the best stepping stone for the CEO job and as CEO he will have to sign off on every deal anyway. Bringing Charlie Gardiner in takes a huge burden of having to deal with the details of every contract and frees up time to look at the bigger picture. I think what transpires this year will be mostly Harley's call, with the heavy lifting done by Beatson.

I wonder what the medical opinion on Paddy McCartin is? Is he one head knock away from heading down the same path as Justin Clarke from the Lions who was forced into retirement at the age of 22? The other issue is how does the concussions effect McCartain's confidence and attack on the ball? I know if it was me, I would be pretty nervous - you only have one brain and once damaged, there's no turning back. But if the medicos think he's ok, then there certainly is some yet to be fulfilled talent.................
