Libba might be worth a shot

Did he do his acl ?

I think we need a med back no matter what plus a running outside back / wing

    ——

I wonder with the tiny amount we received with Rohan is there anyone that the cats may let walk to us? Ie a player there were not going to re-sign anyway

    Geelong Cats
Unsigned: George Horlin-Smith (unrestricted free agent), Jamaine Jones, Daniel Menzel (unrestricted free agent), Jordan Murdoch, Sam Simpson, Jackson Thurlow

Now that the free agency period has closed, the remaining FA players can only join new clubs via trades unless they are delisted.

If they delist themselves they must nominate for the NAB AFL Draft or pre-season draft, but if they are delisted by their clubs they are eligible for delisted free agency.

In short who are we going to use picks 26 and 33 for in this trade period ?

I don’t think it’s likely we will use for the draft and we wanted to bring in a back and no doubt had to use one of the picks

Will we use the second round pick for next year or our first ? For a significant trade this year? Ie doing a hawks / Geelong approach

My gut feeling is that makes sense if we have a couple targeted players and we can make the trade to use 26 and 33 for a trade now

Who would like the picks? Or points?
Who wants to trade in other players and will need to offload?

Could we so boldly go after Wingard and t.Langdon ? Or Ed Langdon

pick 33 plus our first round next year for Wingard

          Pick 26 for Tom Langdon

Pick 33 plus our next year second round from saints to freeo for Ed Langdon ? Offer him a 4yr deal like we did for kennedy / mummy and make it hard for freeo

          —————-

From an early post to recap points picks etc

So it appears we now have after hannes trade:

picks 26,33,38,39,40,67 and future second round next year which might be mid 20s

So next year will be approx 13,23,33

So if we keep 26,33 picks this year for trades ie Langdon and maybe another like Howe at the hawks or a fast winger preferably with say some afl experience 40 games plus :

We can go 38,39,40,67 = 1400pts approx and that is pick 6 in the draft for Blakey with the 20% discount

He ain’t going lower then pick 5.......so that’s cool and can go slight deficit for next year if we have used our trade picks 26 and 33 already

If Blakey goes for less pts we are stuck using say pick 40 and 67 this year which using pick 40 I’m sure we would get good value as we usually do

If Blakey goes pick 4 we cough up deficit pts next year ie maybe second or 3rd round next year ?

Which in turn means Langdon will be more expendable to the Wobbles...You'd think.

Which in turn enhances our chance of securing Langdon....You'd think.

I'm searching for some positives out of today, and this is the best I can come up with.
May also increase the likelihood of Freo securing Langdon.

Not directed at you EK, but there are a lot of early calls bemoaning our trade performance. Let's wait to see how it pans out.

If we had picked up someone it wouldn’t be so bad , but to give up hanners and Rohan for absolute peanuts , and not add anyone ( other than Clarke who could be a gun bit could also be a dud ) , geez that’s average from our lot. Eyes to next year maybe but buddy ain’t getting any younger

My understanding was that freeo want the med tall defender Marcus Adams from the dogs

That was rumoured a lot prior to trade week

Marcus wants to go back to WA

They did, but he requested a trade to Brisbane I thought.

BTW those on here, me included, who are disappointed we only got a lateish second round pick for Hanners, talk is that Scully will go to the Hawks for a 3rd rounder.

That is even more ludicrous. I know Scully missed most of 2018 with injury but he's still a gun. The Giants must have major problems with their salary cap if they are willing to offload a player with years left, who isn't get paid a huge amount, and who is still contracted, for such a meagre trade return. And while they still have a pretty strong midfield - Kelly, Coniglio, Ward, maybe Deledio (but not for long) and Taranto, Hopper and Bonar young players who look great - their depth will be severely tested next year. And what happens if Kelly then decides he wants to leave at the end of 2019?

They'll get a good pick back for Shiel (at least the Bombers pick 8) but Setterfield has now gone, Scully looks like going, and their ruck stocks look pretty ordinary too.

If the 2016 version re-appears, it would be a historically bad trade by the Swans. Potentially worse in hindsight than Mitchell or Nankervis.

The Swans clearly believe the old Hanners is not coming back.

I have to share this quote re: Barrett from Trade Talk - AFL.com.au

"Damian Barrett is perhaps the best footy journalist in the country and his Sliding Doors column is always full of nuggets."
The later part of that assessment is correct. Nuggets is a term for @@@@.

                          Twice - 2015 & 2018.

                          Increases the risk of another.

I actually think scully is a decoy to get the shiel deal done. Can't see how giants would need to lose so many players.
My top is one of scully or shiel will stay.

If not, then they are stuffed. Another GC coming up.

We certainly don't have the come home factor of any of the Melbourne clubs but in the past could offer a club culture second to none and a guarantee that if you joined, you were a chance to win a flag. Our inability to attract any top liners of late may possibly indicate that either our culture is not what it once was and / or we are viewed as not being a realistic place to go if you want a chance at a premiership. I hope this is not the case and its more just that the club is clearing cap space for a big move at a later date,

With the trade week over, I have been thinking about a possible best 22 as we know it.
                                B: Smith Melican Rampe
                                HB: Mills Aliir Lloyd
                                C: Jones Parker Florent
                                HF: Heeney Franklin Hayward
                                F: Papley Sinclair Reid
                                Foll: Naismith Hewett Kennedy
                                Int: Cunningham Ronke McVeigh Clarke
Emerg: McCartain, Dawson, Stoddart, Ling, Cameron, O'Riordan, Jack, Grundy, Robinson, Fox
I think when you do this exercise, it shows that we are at least one star midfielder short if not two. For the last 2 seasons, we have been effectively playing that way with a badly out of form Hanners and Jack having to be carried by Parker and Kennedy (both just looked knackered at times during 2018). We really need guys like Jones and Florent to step up, with others like Heeney, Mills, Hayward, Papley and Ronke to improve on their ability to push into the midfield as support. If they don't, and we don't manage to nab any external midfield talent between now and 2019, I fear we will get well and truly left behind next season.
