Is that official. That Langdon’s staying at the Pies?
Even so I thought we had other targets e.g Finlayson etc.
I don’t think we got rid of Hanners to get Langdon. I now think the Hanners decision stands alone.
I read Scully had said he’d like to go home if a mutually beneficial trade could be arranged.
The soft line on Scully versus the harder line on Shiel implies the Giants don’t see him 100% getting over his injuryComment

Langdon just backs up my point. To keep or gain players the northern clubs have to pay overs.
It’s basically a return to the 70’s n 80’s except instead of the VFL using the WAFL, SANFL & TANFL as feeder leagues they use the northern clubs as feeder clubs now.Comment

But haven't seen anything that we are into him so it more than likely wont happen...

Harley said that the incumbent club has the whip hand - re: Langdon. I don’t think his decision to stay is so much a reflection on us as about his love for the Pies.
We shouldn’t take it personally. How many big fish actually change clubs. Although this year might be a huge exception.
With the exception of superstar forwards, Swans have a track record or turning fringe players into All Australians e.g. Teddy, Joey etc. Ryan Clarke said that is why he wants to come to us.
To prise a player out of another club is not easy and generally requires paying overs or being based in Melbourne.
I think the Swans have a list of players they’ll target to allow Mills and Jones to play in the mids. That seems to be the strategy. Finlayson. Someone from Port. Duryea etc.

Haven't seen anything regarding us chasing Finlayson but that would possibly appease my disappointment in losing out on Langdon who would've fitted in beautifully at the Swans... at least Finlayson is a good size and an excellent kick and still young enough to turn into a quality player with the right guidance and development! It doesn't hurt that he's a N.S.W. boy too.
But haven't seen anything that we are into him so it more than likely wont happen...

The Langdon deal is off. In reality it was probably never even really on.
My god I hate trade period.
So much media hype. All spruiked up to sell advertising. I fall for the same silly stunts every year.
I am a sucker!
As usual the numbers of players actually moving clubs is a fraction of the media spin in the lead up.Comment

That sucks missing out on both Langdon & Vandenberg to remain home, when the vibe was that we were more likely than unlikely we'd get them both (particularly when they do a medical with us). Tom Jonas (PA) was mentioned pre trade period as a player of interest with us.Comment

Current state of play:
Picks 26 & 33 still to be used on trades or in the draft.
38, 39, 40 = Should be enough points to get Blakey.
Pick 70 for Finlayson should do it OR Pick 33 for Jonas.
Might as well keep 26 and draft a kid. Let the recruiters earn their money.Comment

I’m leaning more to a drafted player more 22-25 age group experience ie 40-80 games experience ie for the role that Tom Langdon would have played
I felt our young guys were fairly exhausted by the end of the season
They will be better for it but a pick 26 or 33 in the draft is not what we need in my opinion
We already have Ling and Stoddart for youth"be tough, only when it gets tough"
