2018 trading, drafting and list management: players and personnel

Apparently the Swans told him they were going to pick him in his draft year but changed their minds at the last minute.
I didn't quite know how else to describe him in that he is not quite a Key Tall defender, also take a good intercept mark as well, maybe more like Rampe??Comment

I can't see the Swans being interested in Lonie. Harley has said our priorities are to strengthen the midfield and key position players. He then expanded that brief somewhat by commenting that Langdon would release Mills and/or Jones to play more in the midfield.
However, the Pies have shown interest in Lonie. (Not entirely sure why - he seems to be the kind of player you can pick up every year late in the draft or even the rookie draft and who are often ready to come in straight away and make some impact.) So if he is relevant to the trade, it could involve a Saints pick and Lonie going to the Pies, Langdon to the Swans and Hanners to the Saints, maybe with some other picks swapped around if one club thinks it's getting a raw deal. Most of my brain reckons that Hanners really should be worth more than Langdon, notwithstanding their relative ages. But without knowing which club is driving the trade more, and who needs it the more, it's hard to know.Comment

Reports that Jake Kelly of Adelaide is seeking a trade 'home' to Collingwood (father played for them). Being a similar type of player to Langdon (medium defender), Collingwood might be prepared to take Kelly as a cheaper replacement for Langdon.
3AW Football on Twitter: "#TradeUpdate | @shanemcinnes reports Jake Kelly of Adelaide is looking to get home, potentially via Collingwood.
"Will Kelly, his brother, is also likely to be picked up by the Pies in this year's draft."… https://t.co/6x2iGYaHrR"Comment

This is an extraordinary story about the Beams to Collingwood rumour
Category: | Herald Sun
“It is understood speculation can be traced back to Fremantle, which is in trade talks with the Lions over ball magnet Lachie Neale.
The Dockers want to obtain two first-round picks for Neale and if the Lions released Beams to the Magpies that would likely armed them with pick No.18.
That would allow the Lions to trade picks No.5 and 18 to the Dockers for Neale.
The Lions today laughed at the suggestion Beams, 28, was on the way out.
The Herald Sun understands Beams has not asked for a trade and that his manager Paul Connors will not be asking for a trade on his client’s behalf.”Comment

Yeah these 3 way type deals are just awesome lol
Here we are as punters guessing how hannes can get to saints and what we get in return
But the list managers think so outside the square ie how can a player from three clubs get to each club and beyond so that it is a win win
I love it
Imagine the list the saints Collingwood and swans have right now if their first option doesn’t fly
Plan B C D E F G lol ????

Clarke excited for move north - sydneyswans.com.au
The way he moves low to the ground laterally forward and kicking reminds me slot of a young macca
Massive call from Harley saying we see him straight into our 22 ?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

ADELAIDE’s Jake Kelly is reportedly interested in returning to Collingwood, where his dad Craig won a premiership in 1990.
Kelly wants to come home and that could potentially mean a move to the Pies, reports 3AW’s Shane McInnes.
Jake’s brother Will is likely to be drafted by Collingwood as a father-son selection this year.
McInnes floated on Twitter that a three-way trade could see Tom Langdon get to Sydney, with Sydney’s Pick 33 heading to Adelaide and Kelly heading to the Magpies.Comment

Hi mattW
I have a different perspective re what we need
Collingwood GWS and the hawks had as many players injured as we did through out 2019
We will all have similar amount of important players returning
GWS players are about to absolutely go to the next level ie there are so many high draft pick players that will lift again and at great ages to dominate week in week out
We need more then Ryan clarke
We need more then the depth and young guys emerging
I think we need at least another two minimum players that will make a significant difference to our team and ensure we can play with more flexibility in our game plans
There are some serious players gone or going 2019 and beyond and because of Blakey academy pick and trading rohanand hannes and Tippo contract no gone we have a window this year to trade well
Let’s use picks 26 and 28 and hannes deal to get what we need
Going 2019 and next couple of seasons:
Grundy
Macca
Jack
Smith
Gone:
Hannes
Rohan
Tippo
You may be right that we'd target him next year, if we pick up Tom. It does look like they want to play together. That might factor into Tom's decision now.
Ed looks a good player and to have the courage of his brother:

I've always thought Menzel was a Rohan that kicks goals. I'm gobsmacked Geelong haven't wrapped him up.Comment

It's funny this sudden love for Langdon. I watch a lot of the Pies and his last dozen games were very good indeed. However...before then, he was one of the most spudtacular turnover merchants in the AFL. I don't often bag opposition players, but he was a constant Spangheresque misfit. That he is now being fawned over is a testimony to the value of playing your best footy when everyone is watching...Comment

Sier isn't a backline intercept player. He's a strong bodied contested midfielder in the Kennedy mold. And he won't be leaving Collingwood. Howe isn't really a backline intercept player either. His best performances have been as a run-with midfielder. (While Hewett was busy shutting down Mitchell, Howe was doing similar with Kennedy.)
It's one thing to want to add players but
a) they have to want to leave their existing club; and
b) their club needs to be prepared to lose them (or they need to be out of contract and intent on leaving);and
c) they need to want to come to Sydney
Ed Langdon won't be leaving Freo this year. Brayden Sier won't be leaving Collingwood this year.
I can think of Beams to Brisbane, Selwood to Geelong and Hill to Freo as the only examples of players asking to be traded to play with their brother, and in two of those cases I think it was mainly about the "go home" factor. Still doesn't stop fans being adamant that some player's star brother will definitely end up at their club.Comment
