Well, Tom Lonergan retired at the end of 2017 on 209 games.

Nick finished the 2018 season with 211 games.

Nick, for a change, didn’t bother Gill the Dill on Brownlow night.

So, by my math, 211-209=2

Hi goswannies, I think the explanation is that both Lonergan and Smith have played finals, which don't count as their 191 eligible games without polling. If that understanding is correct, the first game he plays next season will be a significant one for Nick, as he'll have the opportunity to take the record on his own.

Can someone update me on the reason we have lost pick 13?? According to the age, pick 13 given to Adelaide via Carlton as part of Mitch McGovern deal. This is the first I have heard of this!

There is about 3 pages of discussion about it a few pages back in this thread (Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning). It's been swapped for picks 26, 28 (both from Carlton) and pick 40 (from Adelaide) that, in point terms, are worth about 400 points more than pick 13. That's a valuable trade for a club that knows it's first pick will be required to match a bid for a draftee (ie Sydney).

... Correction, you were right ... they are equal on eligible games without a Brownlow vote. Nick pips him on games aggregate (but has played 2 more finals). Bring on Round 1 2019 and after a stellar preseason Smith hopefully has a serviceable but not outstanding game

Thanks goswannies. I was wondering how we could be arriving at different conclusions, and went burrowing after some statistics to try to work it out, without realising yourself and markwebbos were already on to it. Agreed re Nick's first game next year!!

There is about 3 pages of discussion about it a few pages back in this thread (Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning). Correction: It's actually about a 600 point increase, not 400 as per my earlier post. Means we can match a bid at 6 or later using the two Carlton picks and still have pick 40 left over. Or use one of more of those earlier picks in a trade and still be able to match a mid to late top 10 pick for Blakey with the pre-existing picks.

Sam Maclure and Nick Del Santo on SEN this morning had a feisty debate over what Rohan will bring to Geelong. They went at it intensely for quite a while as they had opposing views.

In a nutshell Maclure had optimistic view Rohan's best would see him in top Geelong's top 8 players! Can play wing/hbf role & can still be effective even with only 10 disposals because of Cats elite midfield! Also thought Rohan could suddenly improve his average disposal count.

Dal Santo didn't have a bar for any of that. Made point Rohan's good games are just too few & far between. Too huge difference between his best & worst games. Does not apply near enough pressure. Has played over 100 games which is more than enough sample to suggest he is not going improve any further than what he has produced. Will struggle to be in Geelong's best 22 as they know what they're getting for pick 61 & also why Swans were willing to let him go for next to nothing.

I hope Gaz goes well at the Cats, but not that well. He was saying yesterday they've earmarked him to play as a 2nd or 3rd fwd, will he be better than Menzel in that role? He'll put on more pressure.

It he plays a single senior game with the cats, for pick 61 they have got a bargain.

I have a feeling he will a pretty regular player in cats forward line. Playing 2nd or 3rd forward for Sydney (with our low inside 50 count, and dominant target in Buddy) is about the hardest job in the AFL.

ST KILDA football boss Simon Lethlean expects the trade for premiership Swan Dan Hannebery to happen on Thursday.

However negotiations have been held up by Tom Langdon, who is torn between staying at Collingwood or moving to either Sydney or Fremantle.

If Langdon does choose the Swans, it could then impact on what they need from any potential Hannebery deal.

“I think we’re getting pretty close,” Lethlean told reporters about a Hannebery trade.

“It’s only Thursday, it will get done today or not too far away if it’s not.”

Tiny but did have about 4 clubs interested in him recently and yet to be signed by saints
