They would have definitely discussed the tactic, but they probably hadn't actually planned with the other teams to see if they were keenI See It But I Don't Believe It!!!!Comment

2018 trading, drafting and list management: players and personnel
To be fair to Harley he answered the question by saying it “evolved” on the night. A predetermined plan can evolve as certain measures are hit (ie. Blakey not going top 7).
Clearly it was predetermined to some degree. I read somewhere that the Swans approached the AFL earlier in the day to check if doing two parts of a trade this way was legal or not... they were happy to sign off on it.Comment

Of course they pre-planned the manoeuvre, you can't just organise that with the Eagles on the spur of the moment, everybody knows that. Harley couldn't come out and publicly admit that though as it would just give the AFL and Melbourne mafia more ammunition against us.
I'd LOL if Harley told the truth every time he spoke to the media.
"So Tom, what was the thinking behind the trading of Hannebery?"
"Well we signed him up to an $800k contract a few years ago, but now we think he's cooked. We tried to offload him to every club in the league, but the Saints were the only ones desperate enough to cough up for him. Kinnear, Horse and I pissed ourselves laughing when they offered to take on his whole contract, there were high fives around the office that day I tell you"Comment

Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.Comment

It is so obvious it was pre-planned, and so obvious it was a tactic to pay unders for blakley, why try to pretend otherwise?
It was brilliant. The icing would have been for Wc to trade back exactly the opposite of the original trade. Gold. Take the kudos Harley.Comment

There are degrees. And there are techniques. I think Harley has a black-belt in Weasel Wording.Of course they pre-planned the manoeuvre, you can't just organise that with the Eagles on the spur of the moment, everybody knows that. Wonder how much time Swans put into early second round players given our original draft hand?
