Are we able to pre-list any of those NSW guys who didn't get picked up? (I can't keep up with the rule changes anymore!)

Would love to get the 3 guys training with us

It's getting harder to predict the Swans draftees each year. We seem to be bucking the phantom draft trend more and more. Last year we took Ling much earlier than predicted and this year we have done the same with Rowbottom and McInerney. I'm happy to back the judgements of Beatson and Dalrymple but it is so hard to know if we could've picked these guys up later without having to do the funky trade yesterday.

I have watched the highlights of both Rowbottom and Foot and they both look very impressive. I guess that is what highlight packages are for. Rowbottom seems to be just the inside player we will need to replace JPK in a couple of years while Foot really impressed me with his pace and kicking.

As I understand it we can prelist Kyle Dunkley as a Father-Son Rookie and we can prelist the academy boys and Jack Blair as Cat B rookies obviously subject to available places. Not sure that we can do that with McGuire and Baker though. Believe we need to draft Tippett but then can place him on the Inactive List and select a replacement in the SSP by sometime in March next year. There is plannned to be a mid-year rookie draft sometime next year but details are not yet announced. Think Gill has still to have a coffee with Clarko to thrash out the new rules and then get them signed of by Eddie.

It’s apparently over? Do the preselections not get counted any more? Really confused.

Or did we not do any preselections. No Dunkley, Blair, Stewart, Stern, etc?

Didn’t really study the list numbers but would have thought would have more than 3 picks in the rookie draft.

Probably just slide onto a list like Cat B rookies do throughout the year?

Very nice profile, tall lightning quick back flanker.

The draft tacker doesn't show any of the four northern clubs selecting academy players. It seems a bit strange that none of them would. So maybe some have been preselected but just not shown on the tracker.

Come to think of it, there don't seem to be any NGA academy players added as Cat B rookies either.

The list numbers are right. It seems that it's left to each club to report on rookie elevations and Cat B selections.

I'm a bit surprised that we didn't take a KPP with any of the selections after Blakey. We went for a lot of the same type of player. Everyone has to be quick these days to get on the Swans' list.

It may well have been Rowbottom that we wanted in the draft and initiated the pick swap to put us into a position to draft him. We could have taken Valente if we wanted a JPK type midfielder, but Rowbottom can break from the pack with pace, something that we are missing right now, except for Jones.

I think we are well placed to make a run for the flag in 2026.

He sounds like he might go ok. Does anyone have any thoughts on him? Maybe we should start a separate thread for him?

Yes and his coaches say he is brave, very brave. remind you of someone we just lost. An outside player who ran in the mids and was incredibly brave.

He's probably the last of the three nominated U19 academy players that I'd have predicted would be selected. Looks capable and dependable at NEAFL level but hard to see any standout characteristics that would equip him to take the next step.
