Totally agree. I’d rather give a chance to Mitch Maguire than Wicks.

From the AFL website, names three of the better players overlooked in the ND and we took two of the three.
"Some of the better overlooked players in the national draft such as Harry Reynolds (Sydney), Durak Tucker (Sydney) and Tom McKenzie (North Melbourne) were listed by clubs."
One has to have confidence in the selections, the recruiters see these players all the time, we mostly know them as names and read some third party blurb. Taking injured players is not much of a risk, you get them at a discount and they aren't needed year one anyway.
For those that say Ling was a reach last year, I revisited a couple of the reputable phantoms and he was only 2-3 spots above where expected.Comment

We took 7, two in the trade, 1 in the post trade and 4 in the Draft. We had eight spots if we wanted to only have 38 on the Seniors list. But we might go 39. That would see us upgrade Ronke and Fox. We de-listed 3 rookies and if we upgrade 2 that leaves 4 spots if we go that way. We have 3 new 'A' Rookies including Tippett and 1 new category 'b' Rookie in Sam Wicks. List complete.Comment

I love Rowbottom's reel. strong, good tackler, good delivery, makes very good decisions, is quick for an inside mid. His averages were very good too. As far as the experts go they say he was the second best inside mid in the draft and I trust that more than you. Sorry.Comment

Tucker was out for the year with an ACL but before that was lightning fast. Reynolds also with injury issues. At least we can place Tippett on the Inactive List and replace him from the SSP. We have until March to do that but you would think if we intend to take a replacement then we would want them in pre-season training. By my reckoning we have 39 on the Senior List, 5 Cat A rookies (includes Tippett) and 2 Cat B rookies. Only spare spot would have been another Cat B rookie. I have no idea under the new rules if we can fill that at any time apart from International signings.Comment

There is only a question as to whether Robbie Fox has been upgraded to the primary list as there has never been a formal announcement of an upgrade, just reported as so in 1 or 2 articles from other websites. There was an opportunity to make a statement in Robbie Fox's review posted on 2 November, but no mention of an upgrade. I suppose there will be full lists of every club at some point in the not too distant future.Comment

Durak Tucker ran 2.84 for 20m last year which would make him by far the quickest player in this years draft.Comment

The list numbers are right. It seems that it's left to each club to report on rookie elevations and Cat B selections.
I'm a bit surprised that we didn't take a KPP with any of the selections after Blakey. We went for a lot of the same type of player. Everyone has to be quick these days to get on the Swans' list.
It may well have been Rowbottom that we wanted in the draft and initiated the pick swap to put us into a position to draft him. We could have taken Valente if we wanted a JPK type midfielder, but Rowbottom can break from the pack with pace, something that we are missing right now, except for Jones.
I think we are well placed to make a run for the flag in 2026.Comment

The Swans certainly don't get caught up in drafting players that are highly touted if they think there is a better prospect available that they have spotted but is less well known. This and last year's draft selections illustrate this perfectly. I have little doubt that Blakey will be a gun.

So there’s still time to add players to the rookie list. Perhaps this is what we are doing with the other guys by seeing how they fare in pre season training before committing to them.
The sole hope remaining for those not picked up on Friday is now the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP), introduced only last week, which enables clubs to sign players to their rookie list from December 1 through until March 15 next year.Comment

Rowbottom looks a cracker. I know these draft highlights videos need to be taken with a grain of salt, but in each play he went hard at the ball and moved quickly, with innovation, once he had it. He seems to have an inside and outside game - winning it out of contested situations, but also accepting handball receives at pace.
Blakey just looks a beast. Bigger than his opponents, powerful, uncompromising. He looks a winner, with self-belief and determination.Comment
