I know this sounds crazy but are we a better team without buddy.

Subconsciously, when we are slowly bringing the ball out of defense, the easy ( safe) option is to kick it down the line to your tall marking target, but when you don't have one, you simply try harder to find a lead or player free.

I noticed in one stanza of play where firstly Dangerfield blatantly threw the footy right in front of him followed by 2 other Geelong players. I doubt he would have rewarded the tackle of Hayward on Dangerfield. It is not necessarily what he paid to Geelong but what he didn't pay to us. I can't call him a cheat but his for and against us is terribly lopsided.

Outstanding and he has a real tank. He was going stronger than most in the last quarter, and he immediately found the pace of the game. So many players who get promoted take a while to adjust to the pace and fierce tackling.

When he comes back there has to be other options up forward so a slight structural change. If they cease to be Buddycentric we will be much harder to work out.

So much that was pleasing about that game, particularly the clutch performances of our younger players - Hayward, Ronke, Florent, Fox; Heeney building on his breakout year; Sinclair's dominant performance.

But the highlight for me was Kennedy's clearance masterclass in the last quarter. One of those zones where the ball is drawn inexorably towards him and then he either releases a runner with a handpass or pumps it into the forward 50. A beautiful thing to watch.

I woke up in Dubrovnik at 6 AM wondering what time the game would start, logged in to AFLTV and it there it was, just starting. I'm glad I was too busy to post this week because I'm sure I would have said a lot of things I would now regret.

We really need Josh to make our game work. He found form just at the right time. Also pleased that Ronke got his chance and made the most of it.

Taking a rest day now in Petrovac Montenegro. I'll try to watch the NEAFL game and maybe a replay of the Geelong game.

This season is looking a tough one to predict.
Dubrovnik! Beautiful. Heading up into Bosnia or are you hugging the coast?

I think it's infectious across the team though. The player with the ball doesn't look for other options and the other players don't try and create options because they know it's going to buddy.

One thing to say don't be buddy concious, but much harder to do.

It seems good timing and pretty exciting to explore different strategies without the champ especially if he?s out for a month and can?t run.
It was great to see Ruthless playing well again.

Fox needs to play next week. What a handy utility. Can play off half back, forward or back up ruck.

It was a gutsy win with great merit when one considers the Outs and that we were looking beaten at 3/4 time. Those sorts of wins can yield great self belief. I think our kicking efficiency was really good yesterday but has not been focused on by the experts. A lot to like with the performances of many of the younger players. The Captain clearly led the way. I feel we are still well off our best football but hopefully if we can hang in there until the big guns return we can make a run as the finals come closer.

Ronke taking the mantle of the small forward off Papley as he rolls up the ground.
Find your biggest black permanent marker, take the cap off it, and put a big mark thru Robinson. He's done.

And rightly so; this really was one of the most stirring wins i have seen the swans do.

So far down at 3/4 time, but to then just blow them away, awesome!
I've been looking for it but unable to find it. Did Fox get a Gatorade shower?

The funny thing is that we were often a better team without Hall and Lockett too. Historically we get too focused on kicking it to the gun. All of those three are strong personalities and don't/didn't like it when their teammates chose other options and frequently let them know about it. Buddy's a gun, but we need to look at other options more often when he plays to make us less predictable.

Kicks straighter for goal than Towers. Be stiff to lose his spot.
