That said, if Kennedy isn't available, there's not an obvious alternative to come into the team. My fear is that they'll pick Jack, given his knee injury wasn't that bad and early in the week they thought he might be available against the Roos. I hope they don't, but rather rest him to give him a chance to overcome whatever else has been ailing him (probably the persistent hip problem). But other than completely changing the structure of the team and giving Cameron a well deserved debut, there aren't many options to cover Kennedy.Comment

We might, given the doubt over Kennedy, but I wasn't as impressed by Foote as some others, not in the context of a potential senior recall. He was a very good contributor to the win but made a few "unforced errors" - the kind that get punished far more at senior level than they do at NEAFL level. I also think, given his injury interruptions, he needs more of a solid block of games at reserves level before coming into consideration.

Barling will be playing, so that means one of the 4 emergencies will be 'rested'. Surely can't be Rohan, he needs a run, probably not Reg either so either Robinson or Towers.Comment

You could make a strong argument that the Suns NEAFL side could beat their seniors at the moment.Comment
-
Yeah, not withstanding the Swans’ excellent NEAFL form, the Suns really should win this. Most of the Swans’ prime movers- Cameron, Fox, Newman, COR, AA- will be playing in the senior team.Comment

NEAFL 2018 Round 16
Sydney Swans Reserves v Gold Coast Suns Reserves @ Sydney Cricket Ground
Saturday 21st July 2018
10:30am
SCG
A rare morning curtain raiser should be one to savour for NEAFL fans, both teams coming off impressive wins with limited personnel last week. Despite being able to call upon the services of 10 listed players, the Swans were impressive in demolishing the NT Thunder by 74 points to register their 9th straight win. The Suns also away from home punished a profligate Giants outfit to claim the important 4 points and keep themselves in the hunt for a finals spot.
Both teams are boosted by significant returns this week which shapes up as an interesting contest.

Changes
In: Grundy, Robinson, Rohan, Stoddart, Styles
Out: Darcy CAMERON (AFL), Toby PINK (injured)
It will be a very different lineup that takes the field in comparison to the dominant team of the past 2 months. Gone are the major ball winners Newman, O'Riordan and Marsh and this week also sees the loss of Cameron who has been arguably the NEAFL's best ruckman. Amartey will take over the mantle as the number 1 ruck, which will be a slight shame as he played his best game at full forward last week. Stoddart and Styles return after 2 games out with injury.
Grundy has been named at full forward which is a throwback to his first few years at the club when he was a goalkicking machine at AFL Canberra level alongside 2005 GF emergency Luke Vogels.
Academy Players/Topups
In: Blair, Kannen, Swaney
Out: Michael CARROLL, Harrison PARKER, Dylan SMITH, Sam THORNE, Kyle VEERHUIS

Gold Coast Suns (listed players in bold)
In: Ainsworth, Bowes, Rosa, Schoenfeld, Scott
Out: Kade KOLODJASHNIJ (AFL), Jesse LONERGAN (AFL), Connor NUTTING (injured), Tui LOWAH, Jackson BRUMLEY
Ainsworth has since withdrawn due to illness. Rosa, Hanley and Barlow together have 489 games of AFL experience between them and will form part of a very strong midfield. Barlow is averaging an amazing 43.2 disposals 8.4 marks 6.8 tackles and 7.8 clearances and will be a prime target for the Swans to shut down. Jacob Dawson has produced some great tagging performances this year (he tagged James Rose successfully in the 2nd half in Round 4) and could line up on Robinson, Dawson or Towers.
Where the Suns will be lacking is in the ruck where they've been relying on Academy player Jackson Brumley. While Brumley has been dropped, the presence of 4 emergencies in their team list indicates he should be a late in, as the named replacement in the ruck Lachlan McDonald is a 185cm utility.
Also without any recognised key forwards the Suns could find it hard to a kick a winning score.Comment
