How on earth have we poached him? What a ridiculous statement and idiotic post

Yes he had a great headstart with having an afl legend as a father but there is no way without the Swans academy in place he would be the young player he is.

Plus Nick is fully entitled to choose either the Lions or Kangas as a father-son over us if he so desires.

How can it be any fairer than that?

Should the academy system be denied to anyone that qualifies under FS? Whilst Blakey is clearly not the general rule there?s absolutely no reason for us not to claim his as an academy kid

      Hmmm. Mods?

IMO, he would be playing Aussie Rules without the Academy.

The academies work primarily because of the effort the clubs put in and the fact that the kids identify with the club rather than with AFL as a game.
        hilly Tasmania
In a perfect world the AFL would be doing this role but handed it to the clubs because they are the best ones to undertake it.

Whatever choice Nick Blakey makes later this year, it will be HIS choice so let's wait and see. We are not "poaching" him. He may still end up in sunny Brisbane or wintery Tasmania.

In this day and age father and son is probably a more tenuous basis to give a player to a club.
The academies invest a huge amount of time into the kids and deserve as much recognition as father and son.

So what? Who knows maybe he?d be playing rugby if we didn?t have an elite pathway for afl in Sydney. By that logic we should only be able to draft players who clearly come across from other sports and who we can prove to your satisfaction wouldn?t be playing afl without the academy. Not to mention that even if they would have played afl anyway that for most kids they wouldn?t have reached afl standard without the academy. It?s a ridiculous and idiotic logic

We invest the time and money in the kids we should be able to draft him. And as it has been pointed out nick can choose to go to north or the lions if he wants to

Yes there was a practice match against the Giants. Only info is from the Giants AFL press conference. Hopper played and Griffen played 3/4 quarters

i'm getting quite sick and tired of Swans Media for their lack of any information on the reserves. Mind you they have given sweet @@@@ all in the pre-season about anything. The information coming out of the club is almost non-existent and the supporters have a right to feel aggrieved. I'm sure we would all love to know how the players performed. How players like Ling, Dawson and co are recovering from injury and whether either of them played. I know Dawson is a few weeks away but Ling?

There are so many employees working at the Swans now you would think that one of them could go to the a practice match and file a report for the fans. I had to hire Cambridge Analytica just to verify the count, which happens to be 103 employees, excluding players.

Here's a list of just a few of them:

                      Consumer Engagement Executive: Rochelle Greyling
Senior Manager - Fan Community: Arna Hunt
                      Community Engagement Manager: David Reis
                      Community Engagement Executive: Alex Bouttell
                      Fan Engagement Coordinator: Tom Falkner

My suggesting is that we fans write to Andrew Ireland and tell him that if any of us plan to get engaged in the future we are waiving our rights to have it coordinated by anyone from the Swans. Then Tom Falkner can be reassigned to covering match practices and injured players who are not one of the usual suspects in the senior side.

I'm not aggrieved, I'm just starting to lose interest. Following the development of the kids is one if my favourite pastimes and it has been put on ice by the lack of info.Thank God for Ugg though.

The club could do a lot better in the areas of injury and reserves. By a lot better I mean they could do something on the latter!

Totally agree, Ludwig. I actually sent the Swans FB page addressed to Andrew Ireland because of the lack of pictures and info of the new players we got from the draft even in February and received a reply from staff to say they were waiting to take pics and info from Champion Data. I have contacted them again about info on Dawson and Ling and NEAFL players. Its like the rest of the players dont exist

Well we at least found out today that the Swans NEAFL side had a decent win over the Giants yesterday. For those not at the game tonight, or not there early enough, Darcy Cameron was interviewed before the game and "let slip" that the Swans won by around 7 goals. I think our injury list is a lot smaller than the Giants' at the moment, so it's probably to be expected that we would prevail.

Wonder if we'll get anything from the club about the game? ever!

Any chance of Ugg getting a job at the Swans, we'd have ressies info promptly then :-)
