      Ugg

Do you happen to know the rules around the top-ups the club can use? The NEAFL site lists the nominated U19 development squad players that are considered part of the teams' rosters. In the Swans' case, this is their list.

Of the top-ups named, only Stewart is on that list. Eynaud and Smith were listed as part of the 11 strong U19 squad on the Swans' website a couple of weeks back but not included in the NEAFL site's list. ( Academy players step up to train with Swans - sydneyswans.com.au )

Meacham is a name I've not heard before.

I understand there is some flexibility if a team wants to have a look at a certain player (eg Rampe back in 2012) but do you know anything about the rules governing who they can bring in. Are there any age restrictions, for example?

All four AFL emergencies named. I would think they would sit one out in case of late changes.

As always, it's best to refer to the NEAFL Bible - http://neafl.com.au/wp-content/uploa...2018-FINAL.pdf

Section 15.3 contains the rules relating to top-up players for AFL Club reserves teams

All the gory details are there.

Strong looking side, with seven brand new faces, plenty of incentive to get there early and check them out. Looking forward to RWO'ers match reports.

A lot of want away players who have left, academy zone trimming and injuries for GWS has made their ressies a much more normal outfit compared to the mass of first rounders who were lining up for them 2-3 years ago. Of their side, Aiden Bonar was a draftee I was keen on last year.

Eynaud and smith are under 19s so the swans must have added then to the under 19 neafl top up list under the rules. My understanding is that other than players on this list all top ups have to be under 18 or younger.
Most of the key under 19 top ups will be missing from neafl for the next 6 weeks. Players like Wicks, Reinhardt, stern, Rogers, Carroll etc will be playing in the under 18 academy championship over the next 6 weeks. The academies can play 5 under 19s per academy game.
This Saturday they are training as a unit and so most are not playing neafl. I understand Wicks and scrivinic also missed last weeks neafl trial to play in an under 18s internal trial.
Depending on how they perform and the interest of recruiters under 19 players who did not play allies last year: stern, Rogers, Wicks, Reinhardt May then play in the allies comp which may see them missing for another 4 weeks in June.
At this stage the swans list is strong and not ravaged by injuries. If however injuries mount then the under 19s will return to neafl to bolster the numbers ready for finals. In addition under 18s and some under 17s like Blakey will no doubt play a lot of neafl.

Ugg I'm already missing your preview. It was wonderful reading and you have an incredible knowledge of the teams and their players. I noticed their is now a similar format on the NEAFL site. Did you have anything to do with that or are they copying your format?

Thanks for the kind words but the preview format is quite generic. I haven?t read their article though.

Latest squad lists have Fox, Stoddart out replaced by Joey Reinhard. Sam Taylor out for them and Ryan Griffen in.

Meacham is North Shore junior been in the academy for while.
                        Very solid player.
Swans often pull in 18 yo (sometimes younger) academy kids as NEAFL top ups

Lots of dropped uncontested marks in that first quarter. Guessing that the coaches thought it was a skill that the senior team showed great promise in last week so they've had the whole squad practising during the week.

Looking pretty ordinary so far. It appears to be windy and they are not handling it well at all. Pretty disappointing for AFL calibur players to lose all semblance of skill once there is more than a slight breeze...

Aliir has been ordinary unfortunately and a couple who Ive been keen to see in Ling and McCartin haven't stood out much either. It's their first games so they get some slack obviously. Newman is about the only player out there today that I could see pushing for selection so far!

Scrappiness continued in second quarter. Swans are marginally better in terms of contesting the ball at ground level but didn't make the most of their opportunities.

There were some good individual plays during that quarter by Amartey, Bell and McCartin but nothing came of them in terms of score on the board.
