If Reid is a shock inclusion, who misses out? McCartin? Can Reid & McCartin play in same team alongside Buddy? Would be stiff if McCartin does misses out for Reid having played majority of season & missing out further development playing in a final.

I personally prefer Reid to come through full NEAFL game first before being considered, should we get past GWS this week.
More suited Reid coming back on bigger ground of Optus Stadium or MCG.

More upside for Dawson, yes, but in the short term I think the selection makes sense. Robinson has performed creditably when he's been able to string a few games together in the seniors, and is probably fitter and stronger than Dawson at this stage. He and Cunningham shared the stopping role on Whitfield last time we played the Giants but I think Robinson played on him for more time. I reckon the starting plan will be for Robinson to mind Whitfield, Cunningham to run with Kelly and Hewett to focus his stopping talents on whichever of the inside mids - Ward, Coniglio or Shiel - is doing most damage. We can't afford to be too defensive, but both Whitfield and Cunningham have proven this year that they can find a good balance between finding the ball themselves and limiting the impact of an opponent.

Dawson's time will hopefully come. He just needs to get through a pre-season without being injured, and have a chance to participate in the team-based training drills, rather than spending all his time in the dungeon or running solo laps around Bus Loop Oval, which is how I think he's spent each of his three pre-seasons thus far.
