The Kyle Dunkley cup was in reference to the Swans v North game next week to see who would get first pick in the mid season draft.
Only the players went and stuffed that up by winning last night.Comment

It feels weird and a little bittersweet having a win because I genuinely want and feel we need one of the top 2 picks in the upcoming November draft!
We desperately need that high quality young midfielder that will be available at those couple of picks!
Haven't had to worry about thinking like this for many years as I was always happy to at least make finals and hope for the best but I think it's pretty clear that we won't be making it this year, even after the win last night against an admittedly equally poor Essendon. It almost seems a little detrimental winning a few of these games here and there and finishing 13th of 14th... Sacrilege I know! [emoji51]

I really believe we’ll make a play for an experienced player at the end of the year, who is more likely to be the Messiah than an 18 year old.
We also need to re-sign Zak Jones, who is a key piece of our midfield.
Both those things will be assisted by finishing higher up the ladder.
I’m sure we’ll have a top 10 draft pick. Quite probably top 5.
Can you imagine if Carlton finish last and have to hand the first round draft pick to the Crows!Comment

In fact since they are on one year contracts, give them the flick and try some youngsters.
We need a rebuild of our midfield, that at least three players, not one marque player who will destroy out salary cap.
Sier is one from Collingwood, contract ends this year, and they have too many midfielder so would be happy to let one go.
Francis from Essendon another; there will be some big changes there when they don't make the finals.
And GWS: they will have salary cap issues again, so Bonnar, Hooper; there will be some A grade talent they can't keep on their books.
Lets go for these young players, who will compliment our young squad; not ageing hacks!
PS if Jones goes to Melbourne, not that fuss, he not elite, but rather average.
If we get back a top five pick for him, totally do it.
The player will be an elite midfielder, with great skills and decisioning making, which is not Zac!doof-doofComment

Sorry but that wrong; we recruited some useless list cloggers like Mezel and Clark last year and need no more.

Our list is screaming out for Rowell who would come straight into our team come round one next season. He would immediately improve us. If we need to finish last for one year whilst developing our team in a season when we have no chance of being premiers then we should do it.Comment

Totally disagree with tanking to get a high draft pick, it is basically cheating. If we managed to draft Rowell we would then have to fight off in two years the Melbourne clubs who would offer him what we can not match, a return home to his mates, very lucrative additional service agreements and brown paper bags of folding stuff.Last edited by rb4x; 12 May 2019, 11:32 AM.Comment

I disagree that we should only be "rebuilding" with young recruits. Our side is too young at the moment and would benefit from more experience.
I'm not convinced all 3 recruits are "list cloggers". Thurlow was a 1st round draft pick, and rated as a "great" kick. Menzel hasn't played a game for the Swans yet. Ironically Clarke who looks most likely to be a dud, fits your age profile as he's only 21 years old.
BTW Francis is a key position player not a midfielder. Played forward against us on the weekend and almost took the screamer. Bonar is contracted until 2020. Hopper is going to a marquee player by the end of this year if he isn't already. I think its going to be more difficult than you think to find up and coming midfielders with great skills and decision making that aren't going to be expensive and hard to prise out of their clubs (which usually costs extra). We definitely need one, two would be better.
We do also have Callum Mills running around in defence. Heeney playing forward who might both improve our midfield given more (any) time there.
I also rate Jones more highly than you do. Think he's only going to get better. He's only 24. I think we should keep him. For whatever reason, the overwhelming majority of explosive midfielders, don't have perfect foot skills. Shiel, Dangerfield and Treloar come to mind.Comment
